message response time

I recently was a customer of another Etsy shop for my Etsy shop and we communicated through Etsy messenger.  As a shop owner I know I need to respond quickly and do, but so does the other shop and someone had to be the last one and I chose it to be me which affected my response rate.  There should be a safeguard for Etsy shops communicating with other Etsy shops!

There only needs to be 2 messages.  You get a message from another seller and you answer within 24 hours.

The seller gets a message from you and they need to reply within 24 hours.

Nobody needs to be the last person to reply.  It's a one-on-one deal.

Being the last to respond would have absolutely nothing to do with your response rate.

Not if the other seller initiated the message and it is in the same message string.

Set up auto response and no need to worry about SS messaging metrics.

You need to answer all new incoming messages.  That means spam or answer.  No one has to be the last to reply.  It does not work that way,

Unless that other seller started a brand new message thread with their last message, or the first message didn't get a response in time, that conversation would not have affected your SS rating. There is a safeguard in place as you absolutely do not have to get in the last word, you only have to respond to the very first message in the thread.

Only the first message in the thread requires an answer.  Keep the conversation within the seller's original message thread and you won't have to keep answering.

I'm not sure if that's it or if they just fail to read the rules.  You know anybody can jump into a ballgame but if they don't know the rules it could get nasty...lol
