Email notification came that I had an order. Order not appearing in dashboard. I sent a message to customer and she confirmed order. I'm not sure how to proceed because there are no orders according to the dashboard. i use chrome.
thank you, everyone. update: i have two etsy shops. i had one from 11 years ago and couldn't update the payment information when i went to re-activate it in mid-2023. now to get to sorting the two out and closing one..........
You have no order showing on your home page- it would show a 1 if you had had a sale.
The email you received is likely a scammer trying to get email and banking/credit card info from you.
Do not click on any links in the email, just mark it as spam and ignore.
These scammers target new sellers all the time.
If it's not showing on your dashboard, there is no sale.

@Former_Member
You don't have a sale-- that is a scammer trying to get your private info and your banking info. Any sales would show on your finance page or in your order section of your shop. If they are not in both places- you don't have a real order.
If you gave out info-- call your bank right now and try to freeze your acct before the money is gone. If you gave your email-- go there and make it so unless they are in your contacts- it goes to Spam.
Right now you can report that convo as SPAM and let etsy deal with it.
I concur that this is probably the scam is going around. What did the email say exactly? Was it a message or really an email?
I sold an item 8 years ago on Etsy. I shipped and buyer sent me a thank you note after she received it. It still shows on my account as an order that needs to be shipped! Any thoughts on how I can close this transaction ?
Did you mark it as shipped/added a tracking number? If you didn't, that's why (most likely) it still shows as a live order.
In the future, it's best if you start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's.
Anything that old needs to be handled by Etsy.
As others have said, you do not have an order, it will be a scammer trying to steal your banking and credit card details, and possibly your Etsy login details.
Since you are a new shop with no orders showing, @Former_Member - chances are high this is the start of one of the very prevalent scams, mentioned above.
There is one other possibility - if the Buyer used a payment method that required them to confirm payment, then return to Etsy to complete the sale - Paypal and Klarna are two examples, sometimes Buyers forget that last step. So it will show as a purchase in their Paypal - for a while - but not on Etsy.
If a Buyer does not see a purchase under their profile, under their Purchases and Reviews, they did not complete their purchase. And if YOU, the Seller, do not see a transaction under your Orders and Shipping tab, and detailed charges for fees in your Payment Account - there was no transaction.
Also look in your payment account, if you had an order the $$ would be there.

Sellers weren't bombarded with these scam messages years ago; I feel bad for those opening new shops who are the main targets of these scammers.
Wishing you happy, legit sales!
Jeez, remind me to never enter "the community" again. Such anger mommawhale!
It appears that you are confusing anger with someone trying to help you. Did you not notice that almost no one (except me) was responding to your post and trying to help you?
That's because your post was getting lost in the real OP's message which had to do with the blatant scamming of new shop owners.
If you have a question or a problem, make your own post but only if you want help. Most forum readers will tend to ignore someone posting off subject.
What you were asking had nothing to do with the real OPs problem so your post got ignored except by someone that offered some help which you quickly took as anger - not help.
What you did was rude (but I did not point that out) by trying to change the subject of the post.
I hope you will take my response in the manner in which it is offered (certainly not anger - but in a helpful way) and if you have a question for the community, start your own post in the future. We, in the Etsy community are always willing to help someone that has a question or problem if we can. I often come to the Forum with a problem even after 14 years here I have a questions at times but I would never hijack another's post.
The community will help, but it's better if we respect the rights of others.
I'm 88 years old - I never get angry - it's not good for your health at any age!
I just had an e-mail notification come in that I made a sale, but the orange (1) didn't show up on my dashboard until 7 minutes later, and that was after lots of refreshing and other bouncing around my shop pages. Seems to be a bit slow.
@BrimstoneHillDesigns Hi, It sounds like the site is acting glitchy. You may have already done this; check your Payment Account to make sure the funds from the sale are there. And Congratulations!
Thanks @ChillwolfArt ! My shop is small, but it's been steadily growing the last few years, so I'm very happy with the progress.
Yes the funds are in my payment account, thank you!
