Why do i have so many views?

Views today alone are 5200, all on items that have sold, some years ago, getting 2 views each.

Oh, no.  I hope that's not starting up again. 

Last year(?), many shops were hit with unusual high numbers of views on both active and sold items and it went on for a few weeks.  But I don't remember any seller getting as many as you've gotten in one day tho.

So annoying and I don't think anybody figured out why it was happening.  Then it stopped just as quickly as it started.

@TheVintagePineapple  I had one of my pieces go viral last month for all the wrong reasons. The first day it was 8,000 views then 14,000, then 33,000 views and cranked up to 50,000. By the time they got over themselves it had been favorited 247,000 times......on saying that I've been stable at between 120 and 200 views a day and today? 700. something is definitely off today

I noticed that most of the sellers posting here about their wacky views sell vintage. I wonder if there's anything to that.

@MoonstruckCottage Yes, when it was happening last year, it happened to mostly vintage shops.   Some of the things that were viewed in my shop were sold so long ago that I forgot I even sold them.  But there were 3 certain sold items that kept getting 15+ views every single day for 2 weeks.  The only way to get it to stop was to delete those three listings from my dashboard/sold page.

I had my sold item pic/descriptions stolen a few years ago. The scam websites (several of them) used my sold item pics as bait to lure buyers. Clever idea since I was not monitoring for stolen items once I sold them.... know what I mean?  I now have my sold items on private. Scammers and web scrapers will do that with reviews too!

Some viewers are looking for things that sell well so they can copy ideas, steal photographs, or pretend to sell what you sold. If it keeps up, report it as interference to Etsy via Chat.

Same here and it is wreaking havoc on conversion after doing this twice in two weeks!

And since I mostly sell vintage (with some handmade), I doubt they are looking to copy ideas.....

I sell vintage too, so I assume they're not copying ideas. Maybe they're looking to use the photos as a bait-and-switch type of thing?

@MoonstruckCottage - possibly. About half of my views are sold out  items, rest current. They must be looking through reviews and Google as my sales have always been private.  This needs stopped, but I am not holding my breath that Etsy will or can do anything. Like I said before, it is messing up conversion stats greatly, which affects our shops as well.

@timelapse Interesting that your sales are private and it's happening. The large majority of my views are sold items. Some have 3 views, some have 2 views, and some have 1 view.

@MoonstruckCottage - yep, they have been private for most of my 14 years! Almost makes me wonder if it is something going on behind the scenes right here! And I am going to leave it at that...

This has been happening in my shop since July. I get two huge spikes of views every day, all direct traffic. It's not social media, I don't do anything else that would attract that much attention twice a day. It has to be bots. Previously Etsy used to seem to catch and filter them out and later my stats would seem more normal, but they aren't filtering these views, so it's killing my conversion rate and my sales. It would be nice if they could get a handle on things.

Another oddity...checking my stats graph, all the hundreds of views happened today within a 1 hour time point at 11 a.m!  And on Sep 27, it happened all between 10 to 11 am. So same time period! Will be comparing that if it happens again, as I am pretty sure it will. (They are messing with a retired scientist here...I love data analysis!)

@MoonstruckCottage - I am going to keep track each time just for fun (?)... It is easy to do a custom date in stats...I checked a custom 30 day period to see where my spikes were.

This happened to me yesterday as well. Over 2,000 views (including both sold (which has been private for years) and deactivated) around 10 am central.
