I have been selling Masonic gavels for years in my Etsy store. The last one I posted when you try to open it just shows the message "item not available in your region" Does anyone know why it is listed exactly the same as always and there is no infringement. Can this be a technical problem? Help appreciated
@steelewoodworking: Unfortunately the deactivation bot is a mystery to all of us. It is hard to speculate on why a particular listing was deactivated, but Etsy is cracking down on what they feel inappropriate. Copyright and trademark infringements is a large factor, but it also seems that the bots are looking for trigger words with no consideration for context. Just as an example that may or may not apply to you, if you say an item is ivory colored the listing may get flagged because ivory is not allowed to be sold on Etsy. Since Etsy is now also factoring descriptions in search, they along with titles, tags, and materials (and possibly even alt tags if you are using them) are all probably being checked. And the bots are also "reading" images.
Without getting into a discussion of what is fair or right or if your listing should be deactivated, the fact that you have been selling something for years only means that the bots have been updated. If there are other shops selling similar items it only means that they have not been caught yet.
Hopefully you have / will receive an eMail from Etsy explaining the reason.
My guess is somehow the wood you used is setting off some sort of restriction bots. Trouble shoot it.. Do you have those 2 woods in anything else..or one of them? If one is in another listing and not an issue and the other is not used elsewhere, that one is the problem. It may be unjustly flagged or it may be restricted in some places.
