I've been e-mailing with a customer about an order several times, but this morning when I tried to reply to his last one I couldn't send it. A box popped up that said "the user name you have entered is not a valid Etsy user". Are they talking about me or the buyer? If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Thanks PillowDetails. I didn't even think about the e-mail address on the order (fore head slap.... DUUH). And didn't know about the check out thing.
Along with what others suggest ~ There's also a chance that Etsy's messaging system is hiccupping - I believe that was the error message when things went down last year so keeping communication on the site is important but direct email is handy since it can be more reliable.
Some buyers close their Etsy account after a purchase, not realizing they could have checked out as a guest to begin with. You should have their direct email on their order.

@AFinerCutWoodworking : You are referring to Etsy messages not eMails correct? If the buyer's account has been closed then you will see that *error message*. The order will have the eMail address the buyer used to open their account.
