As I am trying to purchase my USPS Flat Rate Shipping labels this morning I am noticing that prices are as much as .81 more on some labels and not others! Happening on more than one label! My shipping profiles are set for flat rate. Etsy please take a peek as I want to ship today but certainly DO NOT am not willing to pay this overage!!! This is WHY I choose Flat Rate so there are no surprises in shipping!!!
Are you talking about Priority Flat Rate?
yes. USPS flat rate for a medium box ships anywhere for the exact same price. $15.19 and it is trying to charge 16 on several orders.
There was a "temporary" price increase by the USPS on Monday the 16th.
Perhaps that accounts for it.
Yes. Flat rate is always priority.
It should be the exact same fee shipped in the USA
There are 2 USPS flat rate prices, one for the lower 48, and another (higher) for everywhere else, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, etc.
That is strange as it never has been different and this is what it says about it.... Use USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate packaging and pay one price: Pay the same price for mailpieces weighing up to 70 lbs going anywhere in the U.S.
USPS Priority FLAT RATE is the same price for all 50 states. No difference.
@alohaletterpress "USPS Priority FLAT RATE is the same price for all 50 states." - it was until yesterday. Check the link I posted below.
It's been that way for several years now with the negotiated shipping discounts. Etsy wasn't as open about this, but Pirate Ship was.
Sorry - this makes no sense. I have never ever paid a different price for a FLAT RATE label. I choose flat rate as it is supposed to be the same each time. My items are heavy thus this choice. Shouldn't the "discount" be the exact same on the exact same label selected? Color me quite confused
And the upper and lower rate doesn't make sense as well. Just shipped a package to MN = $16. Followed by a label to MI = $15.19 (the rate I always have paid). Exact same flat rate box on both orders.
I have spoken with Etsy and there is indeed a glitch for overcharge on USPS FLAT RATE shipping as there should never be a variant in charges for the exact same box. Thus.... flat rate. Etsy has reimbursed the charges and are looking into it more on their end.
@MimmStudio: Are you saying that Etsy is charging you more for the label than they charged the buyer or that the cost of the label is higher than you think it should be?
And since this is an older thread you may want to consider starting a new one in case a moderator closes this one.
@MimmStudio Flat rate prices, did you check Notice 123?There are differences due to recent increases by USPS for flat rate. And holiday rates kicked in last month. Also make sure you did not select flat rate express which has a differnt cost than other flat rate.

Some USPS rates changed for select zip codes yesterday: https://www.valueaddedresource.net/usps-zip-code-rate-increase-rural-surcharge/
but Etsy didn't notify anyone of those changes. Not even Support, apparently (which is nothing new)
Good catch. I plugged in one of the identified zip codes into Etsy's calculator and the price jumped from $15.19 to $16.00
It certainly should be the same rate in the contiguous 48. But even Etsy's shipping calculator shows 2 different prices for contiguous 48 versus Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, etc. We ship to customers all the time in Hawaii and Alaska and occasionally other locations and it has been higher priced to those locations for the past several years. Still cheaper than retail. It shall be interesting to see what Etsy has to say.
I think that is the "glitch." Etsy is looking into it they stated anyway. I think people are confusing FLAT RATE Priority with Calculated Priority in this thread. USPS charges the SAME rate on FLAT RATE boxes and can weigh up to 70lbs. for the same charge. I noticed it and they acknowledged it and refunded. NOW to see if something is actually done about it is another thing. haha Will see tomorrow when I ship again.
Flat Rate's not so flat anymore.
From Shipstation:
Effective September 16, 2024, packages shipped to certain ZIP Codes will be priced at published commercial rates. Depending on where you’re shipping, you may notice slightly higher prices.
@Adorabilities It's really unfortunately that Etsy chose not to announce this, unlike other marketplaces and label providers.
Ebay announced this on Sept 4th.
It's not surprising that Etsy didn't have an announcement about this increase considering they've never updated calculated shipping to have "Ground Advantage" as the mail class (instead of having to select 1st class and Parcel select) that went into effect LAST July 2023.
This is not on Flat Rate shipping. Just calculated when entering the size box and weight etc.
