Suspicious DM from fake technical support

Jump to solution

I am very new to selling on Etsy. I put my first listing up today. I later received a message from what I know now is a fake account. They said:

“Hello, I am Etsy site support, we saw that you have made a store on our site, to continue to sell your items you need to go through the process of re-verification, it will not take long, when you read the message write "DONE" in chat, this will let us know that you are ready to go through the verification process on Etsy. best wishes: Technical Support”

Unfortunately, I did reply with DONE, BUT I did not give them any information. Will I be okay? I have not sold online prior to this. Thank you. I have since marked the message as spam and deleted it.

If you didn't go any further and give them info, you should be OK. There are a lot of scams going around targeting new shops. Remember that any messages from Etsy will be in the Etsy folder. Glad you caught on that it was a scam. You can read about many here in the forums.

Hi there, I also received a fake Etsy Technical Support message about 40 minutes ago. This is what they said:

"Welcome to Etsy technical support! Your item has been paid for by the buyer, but an error occurred in the order processing and the order cannot be displayed in your personal account. Please enter your 𝐞-𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐥 in this chat to receive a customized form to verify your store. Thank you!"

And at the same (40 minutes ago) time a message from the fake Buyer named "Pascal" came through Etsy stating this:

"Hello I paid for your product but when I go to "My Orders" I don't see the purchase... And the money has already been debited from my account. Can you help me?"

Normally I would receive an email directly to my registered email address as soon someone purchase an item from my Etsy Shop, which will show (confirmed) 'xxx buyer bought xxx product' etc. So, when I checked, there were no email received and also in my Etsy/Orders & Delivery there were no orders from this buyer "Pascal", and I even double-check my bank account and there were no money received. So, this is definitely a spam.

Just be ware of spammers including fake buyers, as they are going rampant not only targeting new shops but also old shops lately. Ensure to always double-check the messages first and look out for any misspelling, urgency, or if they ask for your email address, etc. Etsy would never ask for your email address or phone number or bank details. And do not respond, but mark them as spam and delete.

Always take your time to double-check everything. Stay safe!
