Hi
My star seller message reply stats have dropped to 0% because I did not reply to a scam message!! So am I getting penalised for not answering scams????
Spam messages need to be marked as "spam" so not responding doesn't hurt your star seller messaging metrics. The etsy seller app doesn't have that capability, so you will need to either be logged in via a web browser or logged in with the orange buying app if you have that installed.
No, you are not getting penalized for not answering them, but you are getting penalized for not marking the message as spam and telling the system to not count it. As noted, this needs to be done in a browser or the buyer app, at this time it can't be done in the seller app.
If you didn't delete it, go back and mark as spam now. It may still correct your metrics.
My advice to any seller aspiring to become a Star Seller Badge holder is to read the rules.
They are simple, concise and very clear.
@TinyIdeaDesigns: "So am I getting penalised for not answering scams????" The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not. By your own admission you chose not to do either.
As it says right on your Star Seller page and elsewhere, you need to reply to the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.
A controversial workaround : if the unanswered new thread is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered new thread as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two (but not retroactively) if the original message was within the current star seller period. Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
Unless something has changed recently, you can only mark a message as SPAM using the buyer app or a browser, the option is not available in the seller app.
You may want to reread the Star Seller rules so you are not surprised by something else and which may not have an easy fix.
My star seller stats took a tumble due to a mistake by the customer and an issue with Etsy. The customer said the fact that she ordered the wrong colour yarn was entirely her fault and that she would use the yarn sent anyway. She also said that she had tried to contact me, but there is no evidence of such (later she said she had tried 5 times), but this did coincide with me receiving multiple Etsy emails, saying they were dealing with an issue (they did not say what). I only received one star but the three individual star ratings, were 2 x 5's and a 4'. The customer said this was a mistake on her behalf, but has not amended it. Now my stats are suffering. This seems hardly fair especially as I am unable to contact Etsy as there has been no actual rule violation.
@SpooceKnits: The "sub ratings" that some buyers can leave on some devices do not count for Star Seller, only the overall Star count.
"... as there has been no actual rule violation." Unfortunately that is immaterial. A customer can leave whatever review they wish (intentionally or accidentally) and for legal reasons neither you nor Etsy can do anything about it unless it means one of the very few and very narrow exceptions. Buyer error and bad reviews are just a cost of doing business.
@SpooceKnits The buyer can change the stars as long as you don't reply to it. Etsy will not removed because it does not meet the criteria for removal.
Is it possible that your message system is not working? Some sellers have had issue with it.
You can contact Etsy under Help using contact us. Just use something close and send them an email with your concerns.
