I had a customer message me both through Etsy and my business gmail account at the same time. She preferred the gmail account since she didn’t know how to check Etsy messages or didn’t get notifications for them so I sent responses to her through gmail. I didn’t receive Etsy star seller because of the 1 missed initial message. Such an annoying technicality because I did respond to her questions. I’ve worked hard to maintain star seller and these small technicalities over 1 message should not affect my star seller status for a full month!
You must reply to all messages or mark as spam.
unfortunately Etsy will not change it, all messages have to be replied to even if they do not require a response

Etsy doesn't know you responded through email. They actually prefer you keep correspondence on here because if there's a dispute they can check the messages.
