I missed out on star seller this month as you calculated my message response rate as 83%. But after downloading the data I see the message you say I didn’t answer in 24 hours was in fact answered very quickly. Look in my sent and you’ll see their message was answered through their order page and not in messages. If you look in my sent folder you’ll see the fast reply. As soon as they messaged me I went to their order, refunded them and messaged them from that page. Please review this ASAP.
The order page and the message page are two separate things. If a request comes in through messages, you have to answer or spam it. REsponding in the order area is not attached to the message from the buyer in messages,
It only counts through messages
You are not talking directly to Etsy here, this is a peer to peer forum.
That said, the rules are clear that you must answer EVERY new message in your inbox, regardless of whether it is from a buyer or a seller, is a duplicate, or action has been taken through the order. A message on the refund page does not count as a reply to the original message. The whole system is automated, no-one reads your messages, the AI filter simply compares the time stamps for receipt and response to determine compliance. Sorry that is how it works. Nothing you can do about this month's badge, Etsy won't revisit the decision after it tis made, but if you mark the original message as spam now it MAY adjust your stats for next months badge calculation (not guaranteed).
@CottonOrganicUK I did the exact same thing about 3 months into the star seller thing. It says message on the refund/cancel page but it's not the right message according to Etsy's rules. I sometimes have to learn things the hard way.
I know now lol

Yes I’ve already been told but I think it’s totally unfair
