Star Seller

I am so upset. I've had the Star Seller badge for several months now, and all of a sudden my dispatch and tracking had fallen to 93%, even though all orders have been processed and sent within the stated delivery times. In October I hand delivered ONE item and my stats dropped from 100% to 93%, which does not make sense to me. I am aware that hand delivery is not part of the star seller criteria, but such a big decrease seems harsh. Since then I've had a few orders, four on the 31st of October, all diligently same day sent and tracked, now they are not even showing on my current shipping stats cvs, which I downloaded to check, thus this month my delivery stats are again back to 93%. I'm annoyed at myself for getting upset about this, but the fact is it seems so unfair, and, it seems this system of calculating Star Seller status is not only truly flawed, but is inaccurate. I feel a bit helpless as to how to get this corrected. Any advice? Thanks

Re: Star Seller

Star seller takes a couple of days to update. The last two days of the month, tracking, messages and reviews, usually roll into the next month. The item that was hand delivered does not count. Not fair, but it is the way it works.

Re: Star Seller

I'm sorry this happened but it's really not a worry.  I periodically loose the star for this reason and it has not impacted traffic or sales.  The program is so simplistic that it can't accommodate for the many issues which arise in the complex world of online selling.  Sellers who've managed to achieve the star are very likely to float in and out of it due to situations out of their control.  And there are many quality Etsy sellers who can never achieve the star due to a plethora of reasons.  And sadly, there are many shops breaking rules who have the star.  I hope this helps with  perspective?

Re: Star Seller

The way percentages work means you need 20 'good' ratings to negate 1 'bad' one. But don't be upset, it's a pretty meaningless badge.

a percentage is a percentage, it is arithmetic, a drop from 100% to 93% will be based on your actual numbers,

so, for example, if you had 15, and 1 was not counted, the calculation is

14/15*100 = 93%

it does make sense

Re: Star Seller

There's many forum threads on this topic if you do a search I'm sure you'll find your answer. Hope this helps.

Here's what a Community Specialist has posted in several threads recently regarding Star Seller:"We suggest using the Forums' Search function prior to posting (just be careful to not bump an old thread that hasn't seen any activity in the last months/years), as questions regarding the Star Seller Program have been extensively covered by our fellow members since its launch, as well as our official Star Seller Guide, which contains in-depth answers to some of the more common questions regarding Message Response Rate, Shipping, Local Pick-Up, Digital Orders, and other topics. You can check it out here:etsy.com/starseller. "

@Luckynumber5design: There are so many threads about your exact issue - based on our analysis of the CSV files, it appears that orders are assigned to the month that they are scheduled to ship by (not when they were placed or shipped) and messages are assigned to the month that the 24 hour reply window ends (not when the message was received or answered). And dates are determined by UTC not the sellers timezone. The "missing" orders should show up in the current CSV file.

Re: Star Seller

Thank you BagmakerSupply.

It just seems odd that orders I got and dispatched yesterday (1st of November) are listed on the CSV file, but orders that I got and dispatched on Monday 31st of October, are not. (All orders are similar with the same dispatch/shipping rates).

Re: Star Seller

You can’t rely on any transactions after the 28th to count in SS. The local pickups getting dinged is a big annoyance. I hang on to SS by the skin of my teeth each month as I do a lot of local sales. Because Etsy still has not created a fix after a year and probably never will, I’m trying to migrate all my local pickups to direct sales off Etsy. I’m doing a lot more selling on Instagram than I used to. I just list the leftovers here now. Etsy’s loss, my gain.

How they talk about sustainability and then discourage local sales is very hypocritical.

Re: Star Seller

I've done what @TickleYourWitch has.   I'm processing my largest sale of the year tomorrow which will be a direct one.  Previously this would have been an Etsy sale.   I've been transitioning my local customers off of Etsy.

This needs to be done pre-ordering.  I've notified local buyers via my website, social media pages and news letters that local pick-up sales are no longer supported by Etsy's system.  I've asked anyone who wants this service to order direct and it's been working out very well.  It has taken some time.

Re: Star Seller

Hello. I just had the same experience. Star Seller since February, sales significantly dropped for October. Added a lot of new listings, despatched the few orders I had on time and was running Etsy ads but did not get my badge for November. It is a shame and you will feel discouraged. I too am focusing more selling on other platforms asides from Etsy.

Re: Star Seller

Email informed me I had lost my star. I laughed like a drain. It is simply a carrot and stick. Quite unimportant.

Re: Star Seller

I have learned Etsy will not do much about any issues. I either have to be ok with all their technical errors or just leave. I have lost at least 60% of my business, when they took off almost 50 of my listings. It took them over three months to put them back on and now lost all algorithms.  NONE were illegal, but they have people programming that do not know what they are doing. It is sad with the amount of fees charged they can't fix their own problems. With 7 million sellers..... they do not care about us. True statements.

Re: Star Seller

I feel your pain. I have been a star seller for several months and went from 100% to below 95% because I made a purchase (was a buyer) from a fellow Etsy shop who sent me a message (while I was driving out of state) to thank me for my purchase. I forgot to mark as "spam" or respond timely to her thank you message ...the analytics can not recognize what is in the thread (did not need a response) and looks at ALL messages for you as both buyer and seller (and yep it's all there in the fine print-Haha!!)...I too was initially angered, however, my traffic and sales do not seem significantly impacted by the "star seller" badge.  I have had "bugs" in the past where one person shoots out multiple messages in which I responded to them all immediately yet when I track the message history it will show one of four with a "no" response...grrr. Frustrating-Hang in there good seller!!!...When I am making a purchase on Etsy I look at the reviews and do not use the Star seller status as main criteria for finding a good shop.
