Recently I purchased an item on Etsy from another seller. That seller messaged me, my item had shipped and requested I leave feedback when I receive it. I did not reply to that message, saw no need to.
Now, my star seller is effected because I did not answer that message as a buyer to another seller.
I never realized my shopping buyer status would effect my seller status on Etsy. Does everyone realize this?
I feel this is not fair to sellers whom respond to all their store messages, provide excellent customer service and ship on time. Why should a message from another seller effect your star seller badge. Loose your star seller badge because you did not answer a message over an item you purchased being shipped. Not an item you sold, and item you purchase on Etsy!!
Wow, that does not see fair at all. I am not a fan of the Star Seller program at all.
me either
You know that happened to me too. I was literally 1% away from hitting star seller, then suddenly in the middle of the month, aka TODAY, I was dropped to 85% do to two un-replied messages because I bought something and they wanted to send me some thing stating that they sent it. I didn't respond because I didn't see it to be necessary and I got knocked down 14%. This whole "star seller" is a stretch as a "feature" that a seller should try to achieve. The amount that it is stressed to a seller as a "MUST HAVE" is crazy based on how much a seller is knocked for such simple things that have NO relation to THEIR story and its functions.
This is an old thread, but have you read the rules for SSB?
You had 2 messages that you say you didn’t respond to because you thought they weren’t necessary. Then you get upset because you’re not going to get the SS badge. If you want it you need to respond to all messages or send them to the spam folder. If you want to keep the SS badge then responding is necessary.
This same thing happened to me this month. This is totally unfair. I have filled out a couple of surveys and they ask for my email that they could sent a reply. I have yet to receive a message from them and yet they grade us on this? I have promptly answered any email from my customers but when I did not answer from a buyer I get dinged. Being a small business owner is tough and Etsy doesn't seem to help.
you are so right. I had 100% in everything. Someone message me for them to collaborate with me. I was not interested, so guess what I did not respond and my rating went from as 100% to a 92%. a big diffrence. mnot fair. i can see if it went down to 95% but 92% because of 1 message
They make sure you are ready to be a Star Seller by crossing all ts and dotting all i s. It’s frustrating but you can do it. It helps keep you on your toes with customers.
I got star seller....🤷🏽 But I sent a message to a customer asking them a question involving something they were curious about and because they didn't respond to my question I was knocked down in percentage. Doesn't quiet make sense to me
@NorthwestDecal: Are you basing this on the applicable CSV file available from your Star Seller page? Only the first message of a new INCOMING thread is supposed to count for Star Seller and is included in the file.
The same thing just happened to me and I'm very upset-my response rating dropped to 80% because I bought something and didn't respond to the seller's response. It took emailing Etsy 3 times to even get a response, and they clearly didn't understand the situation. I feel Etsy is deliberatly doing this to ruin star sellers. Etsy also deleted one of my listings for 'violating the intellectual property policy'. I've never received as reply as to how a Barbie skirt violates this policy. I don't think I'll buy off Etsy again.

One word....BARBIE.
Barbie is a Trademarked brand, and Etsy has been adding many common Trademarks to the listing filter to screen for possible counterfeits. The bots just look for specific words, not context. The fact that your Barbie outfits are vintage and therefore not in breach of Trademark doesn't protect them from removal when the bot sees the word Barbie. Once they are removed they are passed up the line to a real person to examine the listing more closely and decide whether or not there is in fact a breach. If they decide there isn't (as should be the case for you), the listing will be reinstated automatically but it can take a week or so.
As for your seller message, mark it as spam now and it should update your stats in a few days.
