I responded timely to every message, except for one from someone randomly trying to sell me materials? I understand Etsy requires a response to all messages, but I shouldn't be forced to interact with someone spamming me trying to sell me items I don't need or want. Please advise thanks.

@BirdhouseCreationsCA: As you mentioned, the Star Seller metric is that the FIRST message of a NEW thread must be replied to (or marked as spam) within 24 hours. At least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered message as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two if the original message was within the current star seller period. But be aware that doing so may cause other messages from that account to go directly to the spam folder.

Re: Star Seller messaging calculation
The Star Seller clearly states that all messages must be answered or put into spam

Re: Star Seller messaging calculation
It’s an automated program and does not read the messages.

You don't have to interact or respond to them. Send message immediately to spam.

Re: Star Seller messaging calculation
As others stated, you aren't forced to interact with someone spamming you, you only have to mark their message as the spam it is.
To you it's obvious this message is spam, but all Etsy sees is a message. They don't know what it's about (and I sure don't need them to start trying to read all messages and decipher them). So it's up to you to use the tools at your disposal (the spam button) and mark accordingly.

Are you using a browser or an app?

Re: Star Seller messaging calculation
Both are what you will see once in the message:
In a browser it will be along the top (along with Trash, Mark Unread, Mark Read, Mark as Spam, etc.)
In the app click the 3 dots in the top right corner. Your options there should be Delete, Mark as Unread, or Mark as Spam.
