I make made to order physical items. Often, I will need to extend the shipping deadline because the customer has not provided mock up approval for shipping or for various other reasons such as needing revisions made. I usually don't pay attention to star seller since it seems impossible to achieve under these conditions, however, I have been extra pushy to get customers to follow through and I was almost there (95%). Yesterday, I had 2 orders that were going to be overdue, so I extended the shipping deadline and was able to ship in time under the new deadline. These orders both show as a "NO" under "shipped on time" and I am now at 94%. Does shipping on time only count under the original ship date, and not the updated/extended ship date?
You have to extend the shipping date before the due date for it not to be counted as shipped late. So if they were due to be shipped, say, yesterday and you only pushed the date out yesterday, they would show as late. If you extend before that, it doesn't affect star seller.

It seems odd. The original ship dates were 10/26. I went in on 10/23 and updated the ship dates to 10/30. Then I dropped the package off yesterday (10/26) at USPS and scanned it in myself. But yet, the orders show as not shipped on time in my Star Seller stats. I just spoke with Etsy and they told me to wait a full 24 hours and it will update, but I am not convinced that's going to happen.

@HenryJamesPaperGoods ah, they may well be right - it can take 24 hours to update. Fingers crossed!
From my experience, you have to push the ship-by date out at least 24 hours ahead of time so that it will not hurt you. Also, make sure you just push it out to the longest time frame. I have customers who forget to respond even though I have a time frame for you to respond to your proof and check which one they want. And sometimes with custom orders, you will need to order different items, not in the listing.
When did you change the ship-by date?
@HenryJamesPaperGoods: It often takes a day or two after the package has been scanned for the CSV file to correctly show tracking and shipment status.
