Square photos...

Hello,

Since a few days the photos of the thumbnails are square...It's cut a big part of the photo.It's far smaller and I don't like it.

This has happen before then has gone back to the normal rectangle shape.But there it's few days without going back to the old normal...Is this the new normal? It's look standardize, without soul.Plus it's a lot of work in perspective to change all that.

I'm from France so who knows if there is an experimentation on the site here.

Hopefully it's still a test. I've been in it for a while and cringe every time I see someone's photos with their words cut off.

If it's not a test, or if they're moving in the square-photo direction, they need to let us know. Photo editing is already so time-consuming, I'd hate to be putting work into photos that have to be changed soon anyway.

If not the artistic veil of Etsy will be affected if not simply destroy.On rectangle photos you can work on angles and so on.With square photos it will go to a standardization of the thumbnails with a "priority" to the so call product.I'm not a photographer but I do my own photos.

I have just noticed this today - in the USA. I agree, don't like how it has chopped off the edges of my items.

Please be careful about making any changes right now because the thumbnails are still horizontal in the Etsy search results and that's where the traffic comes from.

Etsy search results are showing square photos for me at the moment.

Since Etsy changed my photos on my shop page to squares, not only are the sides of the photo cut off, but they are blurry! Not REAL blurry. You might not notice unless you take a good look. But my photos are not crisp and clear. I work hard to make my photos crisp and clear! Same thing on other people's shop pages. I have 350 listings. I hope this doesn't mean that I will have to fix all my photos!

I was told by Etsy that this is a bug. But who knows... Etsy's engineering team is terrible.

I just saw all of my thumbnails are square and look totally messed up. All the search thumbnails are also square and other people's shop images don't look right either. I'll wait to see if it's permanent. This will take weeks if not months of editing to update if it's real!

What is even weirder is that we looked at our shop home page from two different machines running the same version of Firefox and reporting the same IP address - one one (logged in) we get square images and on the other (not logged in) we see the "old" layout.  Trying to view through a VPN and Brave browser, the entire etsy.com errors out with "429 Too Many Requests".

Our shop's have just been chopped of to make them square, when you click on an ad, they are rectangular as before.

When you view a rectangular image on a phone, you get a black slab above and below to fill it out to the square shaped screen. It follows that a square image will be larger and easier to see well on a phone, but butchered and ruined on a laptop.

There doesn't seem to be a good answer to this one... maybe some bright spark will start making square laptops, square movies for square TV's, maybe square tablets too. I think the world is going square, and I'm going mad.

Just seen my photos and they're square, seriously... can't etsy go one day without changing something on this dam site!
