Needs to be fixed asap! Senseless tinkering. It's so backwards and it reflects negatively on sellers and interferes with the shopping process. Hiding and limiting the visibility or access to important areas of a shop is not smart and it's not productive. There is absolutely no good reason for moving a shop announcement from the top to the bottom of a page. It's only common sense that a shop owners announcement greeting and information be front and center. The announcement should also have more than one line that is not fading out behind the "read more" button. Something is wrong with whoever actually makes these destructive decisions. Even Etsy has their announcement topic listed first in the forum categories. This needs to be fixed today. It's like welcoming or greeting guests at your back door instead of your front door.. hellooo is anybody home?
Yes! I don't understand why they keep hiding some of the most important things just like item details in listings. At no point should a customer have to click to expand details about the item they are purchasing. They hide details so we put it in the announcement too now they are hiding our announcements.
Since most buyers do not see shop home pages, the moving of the announcement may not be an issue for buyers.
And this is a test. It is not permanent and not everyone sees it. I am not in the test.
@PrimFun Whether it's a test or not, it's still senseless. Tests can turn into changes, even though I doubt this will, because it makes no sense to move a shop owners announcement from the top of a page. I'm familiar w Etsy and the way they operate.
@PrimFun I just checked your shop and your announcement is also down at the bottom between your doll listings and the reviews.
@LaurieBCreations Because you are in the test. I am not. I see your announcement in the spot it has been in for years.
Not everyone is in the test. Shops are not in the test. Accounts are.
The senseless tech tinkering etc. needs to stop.
It's so frustrating that Etsy makes senseless changes, even if it is a test. We have enough trouble with customers that just click on pictures and don't read the descriptions. Etsy doesn't need to keep tinkering. Good grief!
To you and I it may seem like senseless tinkering, but for Etsy it is experimentation, and as it is their site, they can experiment all they like. In all probability, one of the factors they are experimenting with is buyer and seller reactions to changes, and from past experience, they do tend to be more interested in buyer responses than seller responses.
Most of these experiments are shortlived, and in any case, there is nothing you can do about the ones that make the cut. Etsy will do what they think works for them.
It seems that all the important information, or anything that gives our shops independence, has become more and more difficult for customers to see. I believe that the reason some customers dont or cant read the descriptions is often because the information is not easily visible. It should be easy for customers to shop, not hide and seek.lol. I try to work around any issues as much as possible in order to make it easier for my customers.
Just a heads up.. If you want to, there's a little room to edit a sentence under your shop name, where you can add a welcome or something brief to add at the top... Atleast until they put the announcement back up there where it belongs.
I agree 100%. I like to use my shop announcement to relay important information to my shoppers. For example, when Canada Post is on a full strike, I like to let my shoppers know that I will still ship orders through Chit Chats. I believe this helped me in getting steady sales during the last strike. Our shop announcement is extremely important and shouldn't be so hidden. There is almost no point in even having a shop announcement with where it is currently. Come on, Etsy! This test is insanity, and I'm not one to complain about too many of their tests, and actually liked a couple that they haven't kept.
Hi everyone,
Extremely frustrating to see another "test" for a potential change that is simply not logical. Especially at the moment it is more important than ever that we can have a little message on the front page not only to welcome whatever customers may drop by but also with important information such as tarif information, especially for non-USA shops.
It is also very important for small businesses such as all of us here on Etsy to build some kind of personal relation with a customer from the time they first view your shop. Just as in a physical shop, a warm greeting goes a long way to create trust and add a little humanity to what can sometimes seem a cold internet experience. To have no greeting at the top of the page adds to the anonymity of individual shops, and for me detracts from the personal aspect.
Wishing you all well in these complicated times!
This senseless tinkering still needs fixing or needs to end. So much of it is unnecessary for sellers or buyers. It's pretty obvious, so I'm not sure what the hold up is. Etsy doesn't seem to get it..that's too bad for them too.
They also seem to prefer to send customers on a game of hide and seek, or some endless complicated click and search that can send customers away from shops while shopping. Nobody appreciates it and it makes the site less dependable. That is not a win win. Sadly, the priorities and motives have changed these days, but I do hope Etsy gets fixed.
This is where the shop announcements were a while back. It's possible Etsy is in the process of moving the announcements back. I believe Etsy allowed them to be on top temporarily for sellers to address issues around the pandemic.
I agree that any shop announcement should be clearly visible and on the top of the shop page. This is especially helpful for those of us who get frequent shop visits. But, I also understand why Etsy has somewhat hidden this feature. When I've been shopping on Etsy I've seen some very helpful or welcoming shop announcements. But, there have been those that make me cringe. These seem to be happening more frequently. Some recent examples I've read have been a shop owner stating any sale made from an outside Etsy Ad will be canceled and refunded without exception. Another was similar and referring to $250+ orders. Last week I read one that stated due to Etsy's mistreatment of sellers, they will be closing soon. I assume it would be easier to make this area less visible rather than to police it.
It's been weeks. Why would it take so long to figure out that a shop announcement belongs at the top of the page? There's nothing beneficial about having it at the bottom. It's not even test worthy. Why complicate things for no good reason and make shops look ridiculous? Most sellers dont appreciate nonsense like this making their shops look ridiculous. It's not very considerate. I realize Etsy has changed over the years, but I think they forget that without sellers there is no Etsy. Just fix the issue and keep them at the top...It's simple. Thank you!
I agree completely, this is not a test anymore, and it is ridiculous. The SHOP ANNOUNCEMENT should be at the top of the front page of our Shop, where it was before. VISIBLE!!!!
WHERE WE ANNOUNCE IMPORTANT THINGS TO OUR CLIENTS!!!!
Please Etsy, put the SHOP ANNOUNCEMENT back at the top of the page. Thank you.
