Shipping question??

Hi! So I’ve just recently restarted my Etsy shop (originally opened in 2021). I got an order today and went to make the shipping label, and even though my envelope is flat and barely weighs anything, the shipping cost is coming out to be almost $7. Whereas if I just put a stamp on it and wrote the address myself it wouldn’t cost me near that much but would still be mailed. Am I doing something wrong? Should I even be using Etsy labels or could I just mark the order completely and do everything with a stamp and a hand-written address? I’m new to all of this again so any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

I believe that Etsy is requiring all sellers to have a tracking number on all their shipments/packages.  I know this seems ridiculous for just a sticker.  
I ship small boxes (4”X4”) under 3oz and they’re always between $3-$4 in the continental US, so Im not sure why your flat would be $7.

If you scroll down at the bottom of various shipping options there should be a button to click that says See More USPS Shipping Options and that should bring up the option for First Class. If you purchase at Etsy then it marks the order complete for you.

Do you not have a letter rate label option in Etsy Labels? if not I would just not use Etsy Labels and go direct to the post office. Surely Etsy labels should be cheaper for the seller & customers as they produce millions as a bulk customer? if it is not cheaper why use them?

I can see where you would be concerned of the price however, if you do not use a shipping method that can not be tracked, be aware that your might get put a on a payment reserve.
