Re: Seller fees

The fees Etsy assessed me is correct for my shop.

What you are selling is low priced and with a discount, you are going to pay out more in fees than taking in profits.

Low cost items need volume in order to make a profit.

Re: Seller fees

I’ve never had any surprises with Etsy’s fees. They are all listed in the Seller Handbook.

Re: Seller fees

Wow, your prices are very low!

There are 2 fees to take into consideration when selling low-cost items:

  1. Listing fee of 20 cents
  2. Processing fee of 25 cents

If someone buys 1 of your items at $2.10, those flat fees add up to 45 cents of that sale, and that is before the 3% processing fee and 6.5% transaction fee.

Supply sellers often have ways to deal with this, they encourage larger orders by maybe offering a discount over X dollar amount, or free shipping over X dollar amount, or flat rate shipping that makes larger orders more attractive.  Then the fees take less of a bite.

I only pay about 10% on average in fees, but that is due to my prices being high.

Re: Seller fees

Many sellers add the 6.5% for the item and 6.5% for the shipping and come up with 13%. It’s still just 6.5% when you add them together.
Do you have ads that cost you money? A big one is for off site ads. That is either 12% if you have sold a lot and 15% if you choose to use them. If you are paying 12% you can not opt out like you can if it’s 15%.

Re: Seller fees

  1. Taxes should be ignored. They are not part of your purchase price, you never actually get the money, it's a wash.
  2. Standard fees are around 10%
  3. Based on your sales I assume you are forced into offsite ads (even though you have low dollar value items, that's a lot of sales in a relatively short period of time), that would be 12% for applicable orders
  4. Are you also running ads? That would account for a larger fee to sale ratio
  5. Shipping. Are you including shipping as part of the fees? This can really skew the number. If I figure out the percentage of my gross sales vs what Etsy calls my net profit, then it's saying I'm paying 30%. This is not true. Once I back out what I charged from shipping in my total sales, to what I show paying for shipping labels, then I am back close to the 10% I'm expecting to pay.
