Scam emails?

Jump to solution

I have been receiving emails with the info below. I've gotten multiple now, and they always say that I have a message from someone -- "Etsy Conversation with Gary". When I log into my messages on my dashboard, there is nothing there. Are these scam emails? They look so real!

You're a new seller, so pretty sure the messages were scam messages that Etsy caught and deleted.  You'll probably get more, so be aware.   If you're not sure, ask here.  Never click on links should a scam message make its way past the barrier.

The notifications you get in your regular email are real.  You get that notification whenever someone messages you on Etsy, scammer or not.

Hello,

Etsy is actively engaged in preventing scammers from targeting our community members. If you receive a suspicious message, please proceed with caution, and do not click on any suspicious email links. Etsy Support will never ask you to provide personal information via Etsy Messages, such as your email address or password. Any legitimate message from us will show in your "From Etsy" folder.

If you receive a suspicious message, here’s how to report it:

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Your Account.
  2. Go to Messages
  3. Select the suspicious message from your inbox.
  4. Choose Report.

You’ll find examples of common scammer techniques and phishing messages here in our Help Center. Read our Account Security Checklist in the Seller Handbook for more steps you can take to protect your account.

It could be Etsy removed them because they suspect scams. Also, did you check your spam folder?

As far as the addresses, those do look like legitimate Etsy.

Real messages from etsy will ONLY be in the "from etsy" section of your inbox. Everything else is a scam.

Unfortunately, this is typical for new and unfinished shops such as yours. Finish your shop and/or return to this forum and ask for a shop critique.

When you receive a message from other Etsy account holders via Etsy, you will receive an automated email notification from that email address. So the email itself is legit. However the contents of the message it refers to could be a scam. If you can't see the message in your Etsy messages page, then it seems that Etsy has already deleted it due to suspicious activity (usually because it contains certain text or links).

Legitimate messages from Etsy staff will appear in the 'From Etsy' folder as well as the main message inbox. However Etsy rarely use the message system and are more likely to email directly.
