Repeatedly locked out of account

Etsy is repeatedly locking me out of my account. Last week I was randomly locked out and took 3 days to get back in. They sent me an explanation email saying they didn't like my password and it was because of a random security check. Why not just send an email saying that? This morning I was locked out again! Of course I can't request a call, or chat because you have to be logged in to do that so I was at the mercy of waiting for an email. Surprisingly I was let back in in less than an hour, but what is going on!? This is ridiculous!

And I'm locked out for the second time today! What's is going on! And how am I logged in to the forums but locked out of my shop?

When they locked me out before I could not get in the forums. But really that's not the main issue. The main problem is why do I keep getting locked out? Is there some tech issues going on?

Unfortunately I've been through this. This is an ongoing issue with Etsy over the course of a week. It won't even let me reset my password because it says my account has been "temporarily limited for my protection."

Don't have a VPN on your laptop or computer. Etsy doesn't like them. Unplug your desk computer, reboot, and clear browsing history. Be sure your browser is up to date. Etsy is very sensitive to any software updates on security. I hope these suggestions help, and someone more tech-savvy than me will help.

Not really sure what that is but I will definitely look into it. I've been using the same connection for 2 years so not sure why I would have an issue all of a sudden.

@MollysCellar   Virtual Private Network.  If you use something like NordVPN that can be a problem.  Some security apps.  change protocol.  That can interfere.

How often do you clean out your computer.  Clean utilities?

Is your ISP private?  Does it have problems with load?  Is your modem having issues?  Are you on a monitored use?  If your ISP is not secure Etsy could be suspicious of who is logging in.  What does the security information say?

In other words have you checked your ISP, your security, your computer.  Old computers with updated software can be buggy.  

There are many possibilities.  It will take time for you to weed them out to see why your password is not secure.   Also have your computer checked for key logging or other malware.

This happened to me before. If you have a Seller account and a Buyer account sometimes Etsy link the two. In my case I was logging in and out on both accounts, made a purchase on my Buyer account and it locked both accounts. Whatever automated security system Etsy have it was locking me out each time I logged into the other. The only way to resolve this was by getting both buyer and seller account reset at the same time (AND) getting hold of someone at Etsy who knew what they were doing. Good luck!!

Well that's interesting. Aren't they supposed to be linked? When I log in to my shop I have always been able to see my purchases on Etsy.

It may be you are not waiting for the log out to complete.  Or the information about logging in is buried in your computer's browser.  If you use Edge this can be the case.

Check to see if both passwords are being stored.  If it has the passwords under separate emails. 

Make sure to log out completely before entering the other one. 

If you want to not have this happen, use two browsers.

I only use one browser and honestly I never log out. I am the only person using my computer so I don't see the need.

Now Etsy has replied with another canned response saying they have a dedicated team looking into it. Meanwhile, I cannot access orders, ship anything, or respond to customers which will affect my star seller rating not to mention it's just bad business!

It's exactly what is happening to me right now! I've made a post on reddit though.

My case is:

My account was locked by Etsy as a 'protection' one week ago. It seems that an account from the Philippines kept trying to hack into my account.

After I got in touch with the support team, they helped me reset my password and I also set up two factor verification. After a couple of hours, it was locked again. I then contacted the support team, and they helped reset my password, and then after a day, my account was locked again. This has looped for 5-6 times now, even I have changed my Email, password and use two factor verification. The time I could stay logged in varies though, there was one time I could stay logged in for 10 mins, another time 1.5 days, usually 1-2 hours.

Etsy also said the same as in having a specialist looking into it. But it' been a week now, but other than helping me reset password over and over again, it doesn't seem like it's actually fixed....

Sounds like exactly what is happening to me! It's super frustrating and scary! They don't really have a reason for me. They let me back in this morning so I'm hoping I stay in this time.

Yes I'm guessing it's a bug that they keep an account locked after it's locked once. If you manage to stay logged in, please let me know if there's anything, like the browser you changed, cuz I'm still in that loop. It's so annoying.....I'll update if the 'specialist' does get back to me about the troubleshooting

This is odd.  I clicked onto your Shop (from the Forum, next to your Avatar.  I go right into your Shop.
(Always use same desktop computer, Chrome, Windows 10.).

*I've not been locked out (yet, holding breath); and Shop is on Vacation.  But I was getting intermittent odd Captcha issues upon Sign In (started in April, then stopped.  Resumed 6/12 on/off; stopped 6/20; my Thread has been "archived", which means poofed).  When I checked Security Sign Ins on Etsy, they were always the same device, browser, etc.  Same with browser Security.  There were some IP connectivity issues on/off.  Don't know if this contributed to the problem.
But most importantly, I wanted you to know I can access your Shop (I don't know if you're referring to THIS Shop).  And it does YOU no good when you can't access it.

@ChillwolfArtthey did not take my shop down just locked me out of it! I can still see my shop from friends accounts and if I get on the Etsy site not logged in as a guest. It makes it even worse that it's active and people can send messages to my shop and place orders when I can't get into it. However, they did let me back in this morning. Let's hope I stay in this time.

You're absolutely right and do not need the stress & aggravation, let along having your hands tied re: responding to Messages and/or dealing w/Orders.  Can't even imagine how I'd react (actually I can:)

I have been locked out on my computer, but I can still access my account from my phone. On the computer it said it would send me a six-digit code to my phone, but I never received it.

Choose a password that is about 13 characters long, including upper and lower case letters, numbers, and the symbols above numbers on your keyboard. Make sure to have at least one of each. Preferably, it should be nonsense letters that don't actually spell anything. That is a secure password. Write it down somewhere at home so you don't forget it.

After reading your post, I started to go in and Change my password to make it stronger but I’m actually afraid to mess with it knowing people are getting locked out of their shops.

It’s been constant with me. I’m tired of it.  I may forget the password and the failed attempts make this happen.  Shoot me for having so many different accounts that I forget some passwords and sometimes need to try a couple times before getting it right!   I have tons of software to catch viruses.  I have a VPN.  I’m on often.  I was fine before Etsy started doing this.  They need to offer an opt out.  I’m about to remove all listings down to just one that is trademarked.   Etsy…LEAVE MY ACCOUNTS ALONE!!!!!!
