Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

Hi,

today Etsy disabled two of my bestseller rings due to Creativity Standard. The rings are handmade, I've made thousands of them by my own hand, left hundreds of my customers happy - and today this! Last month I even received the message to apply with these rings to Design Awards - they were Etsy's pick for at least a year! I can provide videos and photos of me making them - the pics for the listing made at my home with me as a model - how could this be in violation of the policy?!

Now Support is evidently not in possession of any Guide Book on this matter and keeps on sending me this "check the policy" statement. This means, that Etsy can just remove all my shop altogether and I won't have a chance to appeal this decision in any way. I feel devastated, out of control and am in fear for my livelihood.

After almost 5 years of business it can all just be erased this way, and it seems there's nothing we can do...

On no ground they can take star seller, ratings and listing just like that. And guess who will be happy in the end - the drop shippers with multiples copies popping up there and there!

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

Have you done a reverse image search to see if your photos were stolen and showing up on any of these "wholesale" sites, or Amazon or other sites.
If the photos are on other sites Etsy thinks you're reselling them.

If they are, you'll have to contact those sites and file a DMCA with them to get those photos/items removed and upload documents to Etsy.

Do you sell on any other websites?

ETA: should have looked at the shop before replying.
You can NOT make medical claims, this can get your shop shut down permanently.
Maybe that is why the items were removed????

It's against Etsy's rule to make any kind of medical or healing claims.

Medical Claims - Our House Rules | Etsy

You have "Anti-Anxiety" in titles and this in your description "The stones are natural and unique in color and also have healing anti-anxiety properties."

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

Hi, thanks for the input. I will definitely look into it and change the names/description. But in this case it clearly states that the listing violated - Creativity Standarts - . Looks like a bug after some technical roll out as I am not the one complaining on the forum

Have you actually spoken to anyone? Or is this all chat or emails? Perhaps you should request a phone call.

@MoonRubyShop: Etsy is never going to be specific with the reason for deactivating a listing and customer service probably does not even have access of this information. A common reason seems to be stolen images used on a wholesale site making you appear to be a reseller. Not knowing what the listings were makes it hard to speculate, but one has to wonder if listings that say 'Anti-Anxiety' are going to be flagged by a bot as making medical claims.

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

This has been going on for over a year - it's not a bug. They take down listings if they find the images elsewhere. The program is working as designed.

Here is how to proceed:

First, search to see if your images are being used anywhere else. This Chrome extension searches through multiple search engines: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/search-by-image/cnojnbdhbhnkbcieeekonklommdnndci?hl=en-US&u...
if you find them elsewhere, file DMCA takedowns and save a copy.

Next, before appealing the removals, collect all evidence that the items comply with Etsy policy. That includes videos of you making them, the original photos taken by you, evidence of supply purchases, evidence of filing DMCA takedowns etc. If you sell the same items elsewhere, provide proof that is actually you.

You may be able to appeal on this page: https://www.etsy.com/appeals

If not, open a ticket and succinctly explain why the listings are allowed under Etsy policy. Attach the relevant evidence. Be polite and as brief as possible.

If your appeal fails, go public with the evidence to shame Etsy. Social media works; tag Etsy if possible. Be professional about it, though.

Source: I've been helping people appeal these takedowns for over a year now, with decent success.

[I'm currently going through this myself today for the first time, and my listing has been here for over a decade. Fortunately I still have the original unretouched photos, over a decade of supply orders etc. Just need to make the video]

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

Hi thanks! Indeed 2 years ago Alibaba stole my photos and item. I contacted them and they put it down, and changed the pictures, but somehow something still stayed. It is so unfair though - why should we suffer because of the things we have no control over... Do you then suggest retaking the pics and creating new listings? Shame all the progress will be lost

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

@MoonRubyShop "Do you then suggest retaking the pics and creating new listings?" no, I suggest doing exactly what I laid out above.

The image is in multiple places, not just Alibaba, some currently for sale: https://lens.google.com/search?ep=gisbubu&hl=en-CA&re=df&p=AbrfA8oCvWSZF8U-Brus347Blu4FywTo-Uv8gcbgJ...

A takedown should remove the image entirely, not just make the product unavailable at this time.

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

@MoonRubyShop

If it was the Listing/s you refer to in your Shop Announcement “Etsy has removed one bestselling Anti-Anxiety Ring from my listings for no reason.”, then there IS a reason for removal. Listings which make medical claims are prohibited under the R=Etsy House Rules and TOUs

https://www.etsy.com/au/legal/prohibited

  1. Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia, and Medical Drugs and Devices, and Items making Medical Claims

Our policy also applies to medical drugs, medical devices, and any other item that claims to treat, prevent, mitigate, cure, or diagnose a disease or medical condition. Possible legal restrictions aside, these items are not in the spirit of Etsy.

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

@CarpetCollectionAU Your point is correct, but that takedown wouldn't be under the Creativity Standards, though.

It's really more likely that this is an image issue, as the lead photo is on AliExpess among others. https://lens.google.com/search?ep=gisbubu&hl=en-CA&re=df&p=AbrfA8oCvWSZF8U-Brus347Blu4FywTo-Uv8gcbgJ...

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

@cindylouwho2 Agreed, but if the "Anxiety Ring" was removed there is a reason, even if it is not "Creativity Standards".

We all know how "sloppy" Etsy can be with these notifications which lead people to look in one direction for an explanation.

Just trying to point the OP in another direction. as this "Medical Claim" could be an issue of which the OP is unaware  and, even if it is not now, it could well be in the future

@CarpetCollectionAU fortunately, the medical claim point was already made upthread, which is why I didn't address it.

@cindylouwho2 I was not quetioning you at all. I was typing my response as the others, including yours, above it were posted.

Usually, I refrain from repeating anything that has been previously said. Personally, I cringe when I see those threads where everybody and his/her dog repeat the same thing.

Re: Removed Listing due to Creativity Standard

I have my lamps listed on Ebay, Maker Place and Ecrater. I have 4 Lamps deactivated for creativity standards, are my listings gone because I sell on these other sites? (I have an entire woodworking shop where I make my lamp bases).
