I received a message from a potential buyer saying she couldn't get through the purchase process because there was an error in shipping. I looked at the listing and saw that the weight was missing. That's odd because we can't publish listings with the weight missing. I added it and tried to save and got a red box with the message "There was a problem saving your changes. Contact Etsy Support and make sure to include this error code in your message: Error code: xxxxxxxxxx" a bunch of letters and numbers (different each time). I contacted support where I was told to empty my cache, clear my cookies, etc. I did all that and even used different devices and browsers with all the same issues. I even deactivated the listing, copied it and tried to start over. It still wouldn't work. When I was successful, it would make the new listing and disappear the weight once again. I made sure there was no alt text in the pictures (a suggestion from before when this happened several months ago). Does anyone have a suggestion? Etsy support has "elevated this", but it's been hours and I could really use a sale right now. We are trying to recover from hurricane Beryl over here.

My listings show a red asterisk as it's mandatory. I sell vintage and antique items, which are heavier--maybe that's why? I even double checked just now and there is a red asterisk. I know this is happening to someone else because I saw that they posted on Reddit. I just don't understand why this is happening.
Part of the problem is I can’t make a new listing as I still get the big red error box. I am required to put in a weight because I ship bigger items. The item I’m speaking of right now is in a box 18” wide x 12” x 12” and weighs 12 lbs. Here is a Screenshot Regardless, I’m getting this error and not able to edit listings or make new ones and hoping to get some help if anyone has had this before.
@InventifDesigns the size of your item has nothing at all to do with being required to enter the weight. None of my fixed priced shipping profiles have weight entered.
You only need weights if you are using Calculated shiping. If you use the Flat Rate method, they are not needed. In fact, I have gotten an error message when I tried to put them in with Flat Rate and it won't take it until I remove them.
You will be lucky if Etsy fixes the error in days, if at all. They have glitches that have been occurring for months that they have done nothing about.
Thank you! There is the difference. I only use Calculated Shipping profiles and, therefore, I must have the weight entered,which it was when I made the listing or the listing would not save. It has disappeared since it was created. I can’t change a single thing and save the listing. It just won’t save without the big red box with the error code.
Now it’s been several hours and no update on what’s happening. I hate to think of how many sales I’ve lost because of this.
I am having the same issue but my products are digital, so no weight required. I can't publish anything. Escalated to Etsy two WEEKS ago and nothing. They've been useless!!
Same here! Digitals in this shop and I still can't edit/save quite a few of my existing listings. Several weeks of email with Etsy support, similar recommendations on things to try as the OP, still getting the errors. I was wondering if it was a mystery like I'm the only one, but I see I'm not. I don't want to just make new listings, I'll lose sales & views stats, people who favorited them will think they're no longer available, and I'll have to pay a bunch of extra listing fees. I thought they would've figured this out by now! It was an issue for months, but they sunsetted the old form anyway. So frustrating.
I had the same problem using one of my calculated shipping profiles I use for art. Exact same scenario. I ended up using a different profile that worked before and played with the size of the box. Back off a couple of inches on the 18” for example make it 15” and use a different profile that’s worked recently. Let me know if it works. Etsy has it all messed up.
"Elevated" does not mean actually mean anyone else will be looking at it, it means the agent ran out of suggestions for you!
There are all sorts of glitches with the listing page. I got stuck on one the other day with a red banner asking me to fix something that wasn't even on the page (a custom order).
I wish I could say something encouraging, but they still haven't fixed the domestic pricing tool bug, and that is going on 15 months. Many sellers have lost money.
Thanks Cindy. This is so frustrating and infuriating. Even if I manage to make a new listing, Etsy gets my new listing fee and the weight disappears from that too. At least someone gets to make money from it, it just isn’t me.
OP, why don't you go to USPS calculator for shipping, obtain a price for the Zip Code involved, and then create a Fixed Price shipping profile with the information for the buyer? You can still buy a label wherever you usually do.
@InventifDesigns just recently like this week. did you adjust the size of the box? I had to decrease the box size to get it to work. Unless it just fixed itself at same time I was playing with it by happenstance. I have not been having any problems since I started sticking to the same 2 profiles.
