Purchases and verification

Jump to solution

Hi,

I have just opened my account. I have had a purchase but the account is suspended. I have tried verifying the account with the bank details I joined with. Unfortunately it won't accept the banks I have. Natwest and RBS. Its asked me to join revolut. I have done with. Just waiting on the verification of the business account. The ID is done.

Is anyone having similar issues. Can anyone help explain why this is happening and can someone give some information on anything that will help. They say if it's not verified in 24hours it will be deleted.

It sounds like you may have been hit by a Scammer, your shop shows no sale, if you have given out your bank details you need to contact your bank immediately

From Etsy

You have been scammed! Your shop shows NO SALES. It's a trick to get you to divulge your financial information and they will steal your money.

They prey on new shops who don't understand how etsy works.

I have had the same issue. Not a SCAM! My message came to my Etsy messages box. My deposit says it's from Etsy. Still waiting also. So sick of hearing the Same answer of Scam for authentic issues. We aren't stupid. Yes I checked my browser. Etsy has introduced new terms and lots of people have to reverify and this issue is coming up constantly for lots of us

So sick of hearing the Same answer of Scam for authentic issues.

Look at your shopfront.  At the top under the shop name, if you actually had a sale, it would show there, you would see "1 sale".  There is nothing there, you have not had a legitimate sale.  The message you received in your message box was NOT from Etsy.  All messages that come directly from Etsy will also appear in the Folder marked FROM ETSY at the left of the message box.  If you receive a message that claims to be from Etsy, check the FROM ETSY folder and see if the message is duplicated there.  If it is not in the FROM ETSY folder, it is NOT FROM ETSY, no matter how convincing the message is.

The advice you receive in these forums is from fellow sellers with more experience on Etsy, and they give their time to offer you the advice as a gesture of friendship.  None of us think you are stupid, we simply know more about how Etsy works than the average newcomer to the site, and we know how online scammers operate and how to detect a scam.  We try to help newbies avoid falling foul of scammers.  Take the advice or leave it, it is offered in good faith, but please don't bite the hand that feeds you.

@TheLittleDesignr: "I have had the same issue." If you are saying that your shop is suspended, it is not. Go to your shop home page - if it were suspended then the listing would be hidden and replaced by a Message put up by Etsy.

"My deposit says it's from Etsy." Not sure how you would have had a deposit to your bank when you have no sales, but orders will show up on your Orders & Shipping page and your Payments page.

If a buyer's payment fails for any reason, there is nothing a shop can do - that is a matter between the buyer and Etsy.

And a shop never has to verify anything for an order to go through.

As an aside, you may want to complete your shop and if you are a print on demand shop make it Etsy compliant by listing your production partner(s) as required.

@TheLittleDesignr

The OP is saying they want them to open a revolute account

that IS A SCAM

so if you have the same issue, and are being asked to open a revolute account - don't do it.

I could upload a picture of my Etsy messages box with a message from Etsy with a QR code under it then a link from Etsy also. When  I hit the link Etsy Page and support comes up  said

1. Verify account

2. Now we will send you a small amount to verify this is really your account. ETSY  did it was only $1.30.  This gets taken back once verified but it hasn't gone to the next verification Page. It is stuck on this Page not allowing me to write In the deposit amount from Etsy. So I can't finish verification

This is why I was saying it's not a scam. It's internal it seems other people are having the same issue when I went onto Reddit

Etsy does NOT use QR codes for verification, that’s another dead giveaway for a SCAM!

Even though you may have received a message through your Etsy messages, anybody can send you a message and pretend to be “Etsy support”, or “Etsy verification”, or whatever, and even have an orange E as their avatar. Any messages that are actually authentic from Etsy will always be in the “From Etsy” folder in the message system.

If you have scanned that QR code, do NOT follow any further instructions, and make sure to run a virus scan on your computer. If you have provided credit card details, call your bank immediately to cancel the card.

Sellers here are only trying to help. Nobody thinks you’re stupid, lots of newbies have fallen victim to these despicable bottom feeding scammers.

the QR code is a link off etsy,

If you go to messages from your dashboard, on etsy

on the left hand side, there is a "from Etsy" folder, if the messages isn't in the "from etsy" folder, AS WELL as the inbox, it's not from Etsy.

and etsy says never click on links that take you offsite, the QR code takes you offsite

To avoid confusing on what is from Etsy  "I wish there was a sticky thread at the top".

Help page: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Scams-and-Suspicious-Messages
Image of what an Etsy Message Looks like on desktop: https://help.etsy.com/hc/article_attachments/19401965459735

Take note of the left menu under inbox it says "From Etsy". If the message is not in there its not from etsy.
Also the orange circle under the actual message itself. You see where it shows the black Etsy logo with the message title and a short one line description of the message. Under that is the orange badge, that will be there for any genuine Etsy message.

Personal note: Etsy should send you a welcome message when you join and explain this so people know what it looks like.

If you receive an actual order, you will see it in your "Orders and Shipping" section and you will receive an email from Etsy notifying you that you have a sale, and there will be a notification in your dashboard as well.
