I am trying to use Plaid and when I enter my bank account number, I get a message it says that it does not match what Etsy has on files. I am 100% it is the same account number. When I contacted Etsy I got a canned response that did not solve my problem at all. It asked my to enter my bank account info through payment setting/billing and on my Etsy page, I do not have a place to enter that other than adding another credit card info. I live in Iceland so I am an international seller.
Anyone having the same issue?
Hello,
my countdown is down to 19 days now.
The support told me that I can ignore the countdown and - for now - my shop will not be suspended.
I was just wondering if one of you have any other updates.
Best,
Andrea
Hi @dogsartcollars ! I talked to support again and a financial specialist helped me through chat, however they still don’t have a solution. She told me my shop will be left open until the countdown expires, but in the meantime they will try to find a solution because this situation is more complex. Is not only the payment method but the shop location. She understood I can’t open another shop in my country and that they will try and see if there’s anything that they can do. But nothing else besides from that. Just crickets.
So if they don´t find a solution they will close the shop when the countdown expires?
That would be heartbreaking!!
@dogsartcollars @ReaniDesigns Any update? Today I received an email saying "You'll need to verify your bank account in the next 14 days, or you'll no longer be able to receive funds from your Etsy sales and your shop may be suspended."
I have a ticket that no one from etsy support has replied to in 14 days.
And the other person from chat support who told me was going to try to help,,,, I am not sure if she did now.
That email just freaked me out this morning. It's very terrible not having any official response or resolution from support. It almost feels I am talking to a wall.
I received the same email yesterday.
Support says they are still working to find a solution.
So, this may or may not be helpful, but you could always start a business in the US. I don't live outside of the US, but I work with hundreds of other people that have had to create a business in the US in order to get a US bank for selling on places like Etsy or Walmart. I went through a training course with a group of people that had a variety of sellers, and they suggested using a state that doesn't have sales tax, but in reality, I think it's just good to use a state that doesn't have any state income tax requirements. Selling on Etsy, they collect the sales tax needed and remit it to the locations that the sales are going to anyway. They suggest getting an LLC (corporation is not necessary and usually costs more). You can then use the business information to set up a US bank account. I believe in order to do all of this, though, you have to also get a US address. So, something like a UPS box or something that can be used for a business address. I don't know all of the details, and their training is closed, but it's an option that might work to keep your Etsy shops open. Unfortunately, it also costs money to do all of this, so it's an added cost that sometimes feels unnecessary. If this is something that people feel they want to do, though, I'd be more than happy to try to find a link to something that would walk you through the steps of doing this, but I am not sure if I can post it in the forums....
Personally, I'm having issues with the Etsy payments as well and I'm in the US, have my business information all set, but they cannot verify my bank account (even though there are deposits in my account already, so they obviously connected to it) .... so, I don't know if Etsy is even going to be my main business anymore. The button to change my payment information to even try manual verification isn't working for me, so that tells me Etsy obviously cannot get their programming stuff together anyway. I've been slowly moving over to a newer marketplace, but I have so many customers that prefer Etsy, I'm putting in the effort to try to get this bank account thing fixed. I understand the need for something like this, but there is absolutely no reason that Etsy doesn't have their stuff together to be able to follow the steps and get something done without having to contact support and wait weeks for a response!
For anyone not in the US reading the above, proceed with caution and check how this could affect your taxes. An LLC is a nightmare for tax if you live in France for example. Absolutely to avoid.
Then of course there is the costs of charging in USD, converting to your currency and moving that money over from the US to your country of residence if you don't want to use a US bank card to pay for things and get hit with charges.
Another issue is country tax paid by sellers on their seller fees. Or if you are registered to collect VAT or GST, for example, major headaches. Because if you have a US bank account, Etsy treats you like a US shop. This also means no access to any Etsy shipping labels that might be available in your country. I know all this from personal experience as I'm American and opened two of my 4 shops with US bank accounts. I've already closed one due to the headaches and am considering closing the other (the one I'm writing from) and only keeping the two with French bank accounts.
I wasn't saying anyone NEEDS to do it... just saying that it was brought up as an option. I would of course suggest that anyone that wanted to do it speak with a company about the pros and cons. (There are a lot of companies that offer a free consultation to offer their services to help set up the company.) However, nightmare or not, if it's the only source of income for someone, then they should probably look into it if there are no other options.
The absolute best option would be to get Etsy to cooperate! I'm just saying that if it comes to desperation, look into a possible business. If it wasn't required in my state to have a business license to keep my shop open, I wouldn't even bother.
Yes, I am having all these same issues. I too have taken all the steps you listed. Still nothing is working. I am a Etsy seller in the United States.
I think this post was more about US shops with people that live outside of the country and did not have a US bank anymore or had access but the process wasn't working. I will say this, though, that if it's saying the number is not the same as what you already had on your account, then it's a zeros issue. If you have checks for your account, then use the exact number of digits that are on that check. I have several bank accounts and each one has a standard number of digits (each bank seems to be different). If you have an older account, you're going to have zeros in the front probably. It wouldn't recognize my number without the zeros. If you don't know the exact number of digits required, start testing it. HOWEVER, each time you add a zero in front of the bank number, click outside of the box so it updates the number. I had entered the exact number and it still showed the error until I clicked outside of the box and then it randomly seemed to accept it was a valid number. It probably helps that I've worked with programmers and know some of the dumb sh... errr quirks... that occur with some styles of programming.
having the exact same issue. Correct info, says in error. arrgh
Yes, I am having this same issue. I am a seller in the US. I've contacted Etsy, however trouble shooting ideas they recommended have not worked. Very frustrating. Jasmarscountrydoor
I'm having the same issue, with the same non-helpful response from etsy. I've had my shop since 2015 with the same bank account (which I've had since 1999).
