I am trying to use Plaid and when I enter my bank account number, I get a message it says that it does not match what Etsy has on files. I am 100% it is the same account number. When I contacted Etsy I got a canned response that did not solve my problem at all. It asked my to enter my bank account info through payment setting/billing and on my Etsy page, I do not have a place to enter that other than adding another credit card info. I live in Iceland so I am an international seller.
Anyone having the same issue?
The bank account is - finances - payment settings - payment methods (not billing)
.....
The Plaid is only for USA accounts
did you get an e-mail, telling you to verify with Plaid? or just to re-verify?
If it says specifically Plaid, somehow you must have your settings set to USA somewhere - so it will be expecting a USA iban and format
you need to get back in touch with etsy, and tackle it as country setting issue, not a verification issue
Thank you for your response. I went to Payment Settings only to see two options: either verify my account on Plaid or Enroll in Etsy Payment. I live outside the US so I am not eligible for Etsy Payment. However, my bank account that is associated with Etsy is located in the US. I lived in the US before I moved to Iceland. I kept my bank account there and just changed my address (the bank allowed it of course).
According to your Shop Front Policy information, your Shop only accepts Pay Pal?
If Etsy Payments are not accepted you cannot add a Bank Account to recieve Etsy Payments.
As you are located in Iceland, it would be strange for you to have a "Plaid" verification request.
My bank account that is associated with Etsy is located in the US. I lived in the US before I moved to Iceland. I kept my bank account there and just changed my address (the bank allowed it of course).
Are sellers outside the US not required to do anything with this verification system?
I have seen a couple of other shops that moved country a while ago, and were put to paypal only,
I would raise a new ticket with etsy,
explain you were a USA shop that moved to Iceland, and were moved to paypal at the time,
hopefully they will let you know you don't have to do anything
Totally agree with CraftyCornishMaids.
I were located in the U.S. as well and moved back to Germany. I have opened a ticket on thursday and still waiting for an answer.
I understand your problem and the only way is to query Etsy, so here's a link to one place to get to the contact Etsy screen,
I’m Having Trouble with the Format of My Bank for My Deposits – Etsy Help
scroll all the way to the bottom to ask for help from Etsy.
I will try that too, thank you so much!
I am having the same problem. Contact Etsy support. They have to do stuff on their end to fix this with some accounts. I am in process now.
Relieved to know that I am not the only one who is having this problem. I was starting to panic a bit. I did email them and they replied twice but it was not very helpful unfortunately. But I will keep trying.
Hi Delight! Did someone from their financial specialists helped you? Or is it someone from trust and safety? How long did it take them to give you a proper solution?
@BuyPrintPlay someone from zendesk contacted me,asked for more info, which I provided and I haven't heard from them in 2 days now. I tried to set up a phone call and got an odd " Etsy can only do calls in english" message. UH, I am in US,CT to be exact. Maddening
@delightworthyn gotcha! We gotta be patient at this point. They might be dealing with hundredths of emails regarding this topic.
@BuyPrintPlay you are right, while trying to find work arounds online I have come across articles about this. Yep, this debacle is hitting the press.
@ReaniDesigns: I am sure that Ersy support is being overwhelmed by this. Every eMail from Etsy will have a link something like "I Still Need Help". Click on that link in each reply to keep the report alive. You may have to do this innumerable times before anything is done but do not give up. DO NOT open a new issue (doing so closes the one you already opened and puts the new one on the bottom of the pile).
Thank you for your help. I am replying the same email that is being sent to me. So far I am getting responses but no real answers to my issue. Feels like canned copy/paste response. I will keep trying. Thank you again.
Here's an Etsy article that may help.
Thank you for sending the article. Wow. So Etsy want sellers to start over because they can not fix this issue on their end.
I do not understand, I get my payment from Etsy through Paypal, why do I need a bank account linked to Etsy?
etsy always wanted shops to start over, if they changed country which had a different currency
For a short while, they let shops do it, via the paypal option, and hid the real country behind the scenes
but that has got much more complicated now, with tax requirements, and fraud requirements, and I'm not sure etsy has really thought what it might mean to the few shops that they only sort of half transferred
I hope you get some sort of solution from etsy
Oh boy. I moved to Iceland and became a non US seller more than 5 years ago. Etsy did not say anything about it and I did contact them to let them know. The way they are treating this situation is incredibly unfair.
Thank you for all the info and for your kind wishes.
@CraftyCornishMaids it would have been nice from them to let us know our accounts were only half transferred to our new home country.
We could have had the time to open a new one before 2021 or when they were still allowing for paypal only as payment method. I've seen some people mentioned they have been telling their users but I've never received an email about this before.
This is crazy frustrating. I can't believe they just can't delete the bank account for those of us who are in this situation.
@ReaniDesigns I'll wait for their second reply on my ticket and keep you updated!
But it seems starting over somewhere new or in a standalone will be the best option for us, which is heartbreaking for me tbh.
I totally agree. I let them know that I moved countries a few years back. Had they told me this info, I could have at least worked on opening new shops rather than working on current shops and providing a good customer service, replying messages within 24 hours as per their suggestions (something they need to do themselves) and earning a star seller. All this will go to rubbish.
I too do not understand why can't they just delete my bank info that they have on files. I do not even have access to that info myself.
Hi Reani! I am in a similar situation.
Context:
None of the answers I've received are very satisfactory. In that post, the community manager tells me to disregard the email and continue using paypal, but my real problem is the countdown and the warning message I have on my dashboard.
I have opened a ticket last week and they replied to me with another vague reply. "You are in a country where etsy payments is not supported, but I see you have paypal setup." That's the only response I got from email support YET. I have replied and I am waiting for an answer. My guess is that chat support didn't give all the details on my situation.
But in that case, etsy should clarify that those of us who are setup with paypal only as payment method should TOTALLY disregard the countdown and any warning message because it's very confusing. I've been so anxious and nervous this past week because of this whole situation since etsy is my only source of income at the moment.
Thank you for sharing this with me. I have just updated my case below. But I will post it here. I am SO upset. I do not understand why I have to link my bank account through Plaid when I receive all my payment through Paypal.
I just want to post an update regarding Etsy response. This is the email I received from them:
"In this case, you will have to create a new account and a new shop with a local bank (Iceland)."
This is SO upsetting. I have been on Etsy since 2009 and amassed nearly 6000 sales and hundreds of 5-star reviews. I have paid tens of thousands of dollars in fees to Etsy. They simply do not care about sellers since they ask me start over.
This was my response: "I already have Paypal where I receive my payments from Etsy so I am not sure why I need a bank account registered with you. I also do not understand why you can not fix this problem on your end with me retaining my sales record and reviews, rather than me having to start from scratch. I earn my living through this platform so please suggest an alternative solution. Your previous suggestion does not exactly reflect a commitment to Etsy shop owners."
