I am a new seller, (six months in and still 0 sales) and I feel like displaying the number of sales on my shop page is very detrimental to getting started. Firstly it makes me a prime target for scammers I get multiple every day requesting my email or falsely claiming to be support. It also discourages genuine buyers who may wonder why no-one wants my product. I am ready to quit as it's so frustrating.

OP, every shop on Etsy started here with zero sales. You might want to ask for a critique of your New Zealand shop if you haven't done so in the past few months.
@ExpressionsNz We all started there. I think requesting a critique would be a good thing to do. You can get a lot of good advice for your shop that might help your sales.
I'm sorry about the slow start. It usually takes a few months to get sales. I think your shop looks quite empty in several ways, but I don't think I am allowed to elaborate unless you request a critique. Oh I know right? My friends would say how come you’re not selling on Etsy. I’ve found that a site review does help. I only have had seven sales because my shipping is so high. In this economy no one wants to pay to ship a huge piece of art. Hang in there it really does take time.
It's not just the shipping. A serious buyer probably won't have much problem with that.
I always feel for artists. Art is so personal. Your piece has to grab them emotionally, and then they have to have the wall space for it as well as it fitting their home decor. Those are tough hurdles. Sellers such as me selling small vintage items don't have to deal with either of those hurdles. My buyers only need to like an item, not be grabbed by it, and space isn't a problem with items like mine.
But the buyers are out there, even in the current economy. I've seen some really big money being dropped at antique shows I'm set up at in the past months. As you said, hang in there.
What else makes you a prime target?
Your incomplete shop, all the missing details that a professional shop would have, An announcement, An about with photos, links to social media accounts, a profile... basically it's like walking into a real store and nobody is behind the counter. Any genuine buyer will just bounce to another complete shop that looks there is someone there available to answer any questions... A blank shop front does not inspire buyer confidence.
And then there is the competitive nature of the product you are selling. All mock up images. Not one image of an actual item with your design.
Order some product and take some actual photos of your items.

@ExpressionsNz: "... six months in and still 0 sales ..." Regardless of what the YouTube gurus claim, you need to drive your own traffic and sales initially on a platform like Etsy (especially in a crowded niche like yours) until the search algorithm learns that buyers want your items.
You are not alone! I totally agree. I feel the same. If I have a choice, then I don’t want it to show! It is hard to compete with stores with higher volume. I heard some say, “we all started there”, that doesn't mean that I like or want it posted on what is suppose to be MY store! If I had a physical shop, I wouldn’t hang a sign out front stating that I’ve only had a few sales! I think I should get a choice and voice if it is my store and I am paying the bills!
