I have several short vacations coming up and won’t be able to fill orders while I’m away. Looking for the simplest, most effective solution. Do I just use the ‘deactivate’ button for each listing? Is there a reactivate button? Thanks.
Can you just extend your processing time and put a note in your shop announcement that you're away?
Vacation mode takes your items out of rotation and it could take weeks to get remotely close to the traction your listings have built up to now.
As far as I understand, you're selling ready to ship items, not made to order.
If these are "several short vacations", do you think you can package and ship your orders between them?
In this case, you could extend your processing time and send a custom message to buyers with estimated shipping time.
You could put your shop in vacation mode.... BUT
I will never do that again!
Might be better to extend your processing time with a message (maybe).
Reason: I put my shop on vacation about the 27 April, opened back up first days of May.
500+ listing have disappeared out of 1200+. No, they did not expire. Going on week 2, not getting much help.

I did this instead of Vacation Mode last month when we were on vacation. Worked great and I did not suffer from listing views not coming back for weeks like last year.
I extend my time out if its a week or less. Then take care of orders when I return. If I am driving somewhere I take enough stuff to fill orders if any come in before I go. The only time I go on vacation is when I fly somewhere for two weeks.
You can put your whole shop into Vacation / Holiday Mode with one quick click: Settings / Options / Holiday Mode
You can then set an Announcement saying when you will be back etc
