One day sale technical issue

Jump to solution

Ran a 1 day sale Nov 15th, and it would not let me select the same end date (for a 24 hour sale), instead forced me to choose the next day Nov 16th. This makes me forced to have a 48 hour sale. When I checked my sale this morning, it's been pushed ahead yet again to end Nov 17th. I'm now being forced to have a 72 hour sale. I did not approve this. Hopefully Etsy will get this fixed ASAP.

Thanks!

@WestlaneArt: We often run one day sales - part of the confusion is Etsy verbiage. Our sales that end today (November 15) show as ending at Nov 16, 2022 12:00 AM which is midnight tonight. Never ran into the extra day issue you described.

It is not a verbiage problem.  Sales set up won't allow Nov. 15 as an end date and if you choose Nov. 16 then the sale doesn't end until midnight on the 16th, not at midnight on the 15th.  This was working perfectly on Saturday.

Midnight is the beginning of the 16th, not the end.  As far as I know Etsy has always defined it as this way.  That's how it has been on any sale I've done, that I choose the day after I want the sale to end because it will end at the end of the day before the ending date.  It ends at the beginning of the ending date, not the end.

@dayspringcollectible

I have set up hundreds of one day sales, because I have tested hundreds of scenarios to help people and this is the way it has always worked until today:

Start date Nov. 15 and end date Nov. 15 - sale starts immediately and ends on Nov. 16 at 12:01 am (to make it perfectly clear).  Start date Nov. 15 and end date Nov. 16 - sale starts immediately and ends Nov. 17 at 12:01 am.

You could always choose the same beginning and ending date and now you can't.  You can't choose 15th and 15th you have to choose 15th and 16th.

Will do a sale with 15th and I6th in case Etsy changed things and report back in the morning.

Yes, I understand what you all are saying.  It just surprises me because that is not the way other sales have worked in my experience.  I've never tried such a short sale, though.

If that is the way it has worked in the past, it could be that Etsy has made changes to bring those day sales into a consistent set-up as other sales.  If that is the case, then it is not a technical glitch, but a redesign of the sale set-up.

The only way to tell would be to try one and see.  It will be interesting to hear back from you in the morning to see if the sale ended at midnight tonight or is still on.

Don't have to wait until tomorrow morning.  New sale I started on 15th and scheduled to end on 16th says it is for 2 days.  The one I did on Saturday that started on the 12th and ended on 12th was only for 7 hours.

Interesting.  I would still wait to see when it actually ends to make sure it isn't a definition problem.  It definitely sounds like something is inconsistent, though.

I left the sale running and will report back in the morning if my ancient brain remembers.

@NoFrogsAllowed: Very odd - as a test we just did a one day sale (Nov 15 - Nov 15) and everything worked as expected (Sale Nov 15, 2022 3:00 PM—Nov 16, 2022 12:00 AM). We are using Firefox on a Linux system but we also tested using Brave on a Windows machine.

That's always how I have always had to set up sales also, but others are saying they have not had to use the next day's date.  I've never seen that, so I'm curious to see how this pans out.

@BagmakerSupply

Have now tested on Edge, Chrome and Firefox and none will allow me to choose the 15th for an end date.

Have to give up.  Should be finishing a pattern to list.

Edited to add:  There was something hinky going on with sales and discounts on Saturday, because several people could not get to the December calendar to select a December sale end date.

I can verify that this issue is happening in Chrome on Windows and also in the Android app. If I try to use the same start and end dates like I always used to, it gives the error "Must be after start date" under the end date field. If I enter the next day, the sale is listed as ending the day after that at 12:00am. For example, if I enter dates from 11/17/22 to 11/18/22, the sale ends on 11/19/22 at 12:00am. This is definitely not how it used to work and it is currently impossible to run a one-day sale. Ending the sale early doesn't help either because the whole point of a one-day sale is to create urgency.

Please fix this ASAP!

@dayspringcollectible

It's 12:30 am on the 16th and my sale is still ongoing.  Will continue to leave it up to see exactly when it ends.

Just tried to set up a one day sale and it still does not work.

@dayspringcollectible

7:35 am and sale with dates of 15 through 16 is still going strong.

Just tried to set up a one day sale again and it is now working.  Started it 16th and ended it 16th and it is ending at 12:00 am on 17th (at the same time as the one dated 15/16).

YAY!  Back to normal.  This is the way it has worked since Sept. 2017 when Etsy first created the sales feature.

I am having this problem too. I *always* begin and end a sale on the same day (ex: sale start date 11/16, sale end date 11/16) which results in a one-day (24 hour) sale.  For the last few days I have not been able to choose the same date as the start and end date - forcing me to have sales longer than 24 hours
