Not able to mark a message as spam

I received a message from someone wanting to sell me a product for my shop, a "wholesaler" in another country wanting to send me pictures of their products.  I did not want to reply and wanted to mark it as spam.  I clicked on the "mark as spam" button at the top of the page, but nothing happened.  How would I know if a message was successfully marked as spam?  I'm thinking this function may not be working.  I had no choice but to reply to the message (for star seller purposes).

If it was successfully marked as spam the message would be moved to your "spam" folder.
The spam folder is located on the left side of the message page, under "inbox" or at least this is where it's at on a desktop.

Thanks.  I actually figured out what I was doing wrong, but couldn't delete my inquiry in the forums.  The message can't be open - I have to go to my message list and click the little box to the left of the message, THEN click the "mark as spam" button.  You'd think I'd know this after being on Etsy for so many years.  Thank you for your response, I appreciate it.
