This has happened about 9x and sometimes I do not notice them immediately. Anyone else having legit messages auto put into spam?
I have heard this is happening to other sellers.
Best to check the spam folder until Etsy get this bug fixed.
Do you still get a notification when you get a message in the spam folder?
There were no outside links in any of the messages and no I did not get an email notification. So yes, for now, we have to make sure we check spam folder daily to ensure it is all really trash.
So glad that I saw this post, I now see that I have a message from a potential customer in spam from 6 days ago! Thank you for posting this! Whatever else can Etsy mess up, nothing seems to work as it should right now.
How can you be sure they are legit buyers? The reason the messages may be ending up in the spam folder is they are messaging too many shops too quickly. This would alert the bot that something is going on.
Let Etsy know.
Everyone kept saying for months that Etsy needed to start filtering out spam messages.... I tried to warn people that there's no way they'd implement a filter that wouldn't catch legit messages in the cross hairs if they did. Everyone insisted that's what Etsy needed to do... (ok, I'm probably exaggerating a little when I say everyone, but it was said by a lot of people in here). This is why they say to be careful what you ask for.
Exactly. Be careful for what you ask for....
I check my spam filter on my various email addresses regularly. Occasionally my spam filter will screen out legit emails from the bank, from my website, etc.
My work email gets sent to people's spam so often, I'm actually looking for a new service (has to do with who's hosting our site or something, I don't know the technical specifics, I try to let my brother handle that side of the business). Gmail won't even let them through to spam anymore, I get a failed notice if I try.
@audreytherese Google & Yahoo just updated requirements for sending to their emails. If you have your own sending domain, that could be why your emails go into people’s junk mail. Google requires you to setup DMARC authentication on your domain email which entails adding records to your DNS. They are using this DMARC authentication to cut down on the rampant spam that goes to gmail accounts. Soon other email providers will require branded domains setup DMARC policies as well. This also prevents your domain from being spoofed… any emails spoofing your domain will go directly to spam (or be blocked completely).
I'll make sure my brother knows... that's all gibberish to me.
@audreytherese It was gibberish to me to! My tech guy made it sound super easy though
Etsy sellers: you didn't respond to a legitimate message in time? Just mark it as spam.
I'm sure that had no impact on this... Lol
Yes. And I only use the App. So you can not see spam msg on app. Or get alerts. AND if you move the message it shows that blue banner that you have not responded. ( even after you reply) and YES it DOES affect star seller rating. Csnt find ANY help. No way to contact etsy anout it. Just screwed i guess
When a new message goes into spam, do you get the orange circle on the Spam folder? Or does that not happen & you have to randomly check the folder?
It happened to one of mine 3 days ago. The first one popped up in the app and I replied to it. Then thought it was strange when I couldn't see it on the pc.
Same with me
This just happened to me today
When you send a message to spam, mark it as read (even if you didn't read it). That way, you will know at a glance if there are any messages in the spam folder that you haven't already seen (including any that Etsy automatically spammed). If there is a number next to the SPAM folder, you know you need to take a look, and if necessary, move any valid messages, picked up by mistake, to your inbox and deal with them.
There is no way Etsy can catch every spam message without also getting one or two valid messages in the process. You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. Check your spam at least daily.
