I just copied a listing with lots of variations, lots of photos, lots of detail to make a custom listing. I clicked copy. I checked the upper right hand corner ... it said copy. I edited.
There was no option to save as draft. I figured I'd save and then deactivate.
But when I saved my original listing was gone and was replaced by the new listing. Darn. I deleted all the photos and variations because the custom listing was for 1 particular thing.
Darn Darn Darn.
Just be careful using the new form. I'm going to go to my last download, this listing should be there. And try to reconstruct it ... it had real good traction ... 59 views.
So frustrating and time consuming to manage listings using the new form.
Maybe it's time to do something else.
Maybe you've missed all the posts here in the past few weeks about the new listing form????
I've resigned myself to it, and found it isn't as horrible as I expected, but my listings don't generally have variations or any extra things, so that could be why. I know the first time I used it, I had to redo it about 3x before it finally worked. Since then, it has seemed better, altho that was just for me. I know lots of people are still having big problems with it, which we all hope will be fixed soon and not just left that way.
By the way, @GlassyFields I love how bright and colorful your shop is!
Thanks ....
I've been using the new form ... and thought I'd gotten used to it. But it apparently still has unpleasant surprises for me.
Thank You for the Heads Up, and I'm sorry you're having trouble with the New Listing Form. I've been seeing other posts from Sellers who can't list at all with this New Form, and that's a major problem. The Old Form is no longer an option to switch back to. I don't see anyone (mostly) saying the New Listing Form is more streamlined and user friendly. All of the bugs should have been worked out of it before it became the only Form available. There was certainly enough time to do that. I haven't used it yet (Shop on Vacation). But when I do, I have no idea what to expect (last Fall, I always switched back to the Old Form). I've been jotting down notes, but if I can't list, I don't have the patience to piddle around with something that doesn't work efficiently (or at all). So we will see. Thank You again for the Heads Up.
How did you access to copy the listing? If you have a listing open and click to copy it, then it pops up a separate window for the copied listing while leaving the original listing in tact. Could that be what happened? I always make sure that I close that window for the original listing before I start edits on the copied window.
If you go to your listings page from your dashboard and click the little down arrow on the listing you want to copy and select copy, it will open a duplicate of that listing but will not leave the original listing open. If you want to be certain that it is actually a copy, look up at the url address and you will find the word "copy" as part of the url.
I clicked on the listing, and used the pull-down list to copy the listing.
I checked in the right hand corner ... it said copy (as opposed to edit).
I've used the new form a bunch for editing and had kind of gotten used to it and some of it's oddities. But today I accidently replaced a complex listing with a simple one because copy apparently doesn't mean copy.
And I have noticed that there seems to be an original and a copy while I'm working ... which I find confusing. It could be I closed the wrong one or something like that.
Just very annoyed.
Now I need to figure out how to put it back the way it was ... just so happened to be a very successful listing ... which is probably why someone wanted a custom order with a bunch of beads from this selection.
"Maybe it's time to do something else."
Honestly, it seems to me that it's time for some of the Etsy employees responsible for such releasing poorly done features on us to do something else.
Please refresh my mind ..... when was the last time some new Etsy feature actually worked well?
I've had no problem using copy or edit with the new listing format. I've been using it for months.
I have found that one has to read the information carefully when unfamiliar because it is easy to make a keystroke that will undo work. I did that a few times in the beginning and I learned what not to do.
This new form is pure disaster. I lost 15 minutes today for update of one listing instead of couple minutes with old form. Even simple pull and drag the photos doesn't works properly! Changes were not saved few times! At the end I see reminder about non saved changes (thanks a lot, this is exactly what I was doing) and then, like cherry on the cake, after I press renew there pop up window "Leave the form?" . Anyone experience the same problems?
I listed four new items yesterday. Three had a similar theme, so I listed the first one from scratch and then copied and made the necessary changes for the remaining two. I swear, it took me twice as long to list that first listing using the new format. I was constantly going back and forth to the forum to find out where things were. I'm sure I'll get used to this, but it took a substantial amount of effort on my part to list that first item, and all I could think was, I hope I don't hit anything that causes me to lose this.
Sorry if I'm just missing it but does anyone know how to link photos to variations? I know it was possible with the old form but I cannot figure out how to do it with the new!
I figured it out...
