My shop was placed on vacation mode and I have no idea or communication from Etsy to explain why.

I've been to the help centre to try to solve the issue myself but nothing I've tried has worked. How can I get in touch with Etsy directly to find out why this has happened and resolve whatever the issue is?

It most likely is an issue with your ID or credit card/ bank account. Did you check your email even your spam folder to see if Etsy wrote to you? 
While your on vacation mode I would suggest you update your profile and add policies.
