Messages received that my store is suspended due to a non-verified bank, though it shows verified

Jump to solution

I'm new to Etsy, with 5 St. Patrick's Day products published so far.

My checking account into which I'm to be paid is showing in Etsy as Verified.

Yesterday I received two message that were NOT in the From Etsy category, and that say that my store account was suspended because my bank account is not verified AND that Etsy has switched to now only accepting cards and no longer accepting bank accounts for the account where we will be paid.

Does this sound legitimate, especially with the messages, e.g. one from the Shop Manager, appearing in the regular category and not in the From Etsy category?   I was reading online that there are scams targeting Etsy sellers, that match this scenario, with messages not in the From Etsy category.

Hello,

Etsy is actively engaged in preventing scammers from targeting our community members. If you receive a suspicious message, please proceed with caution. Etsy Support will never ask you to provide personal information via Etsy Messages, such as your email address or password. Any legitimate message from us will show in your "From Etsy" folder.

If you receive a suspicious message, here’s how to report it:

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Your Account.
  2. Go to Messages
  3. Select the suspicious message from your inbox.
  4. Choose Mark as Spam.

You’ll find examples of common scammer techniques and phishing messages here in our Help Center. Read our Account Security Checklist in the Seller Handbook for more steps you can take to protect your account.

Your shop is open.  Your payments are active.

Those were spam messages.  Spam them.

And finish your shop.  You are missing several things like location and about page which incldues POD information if you are using one.  Shop policies for the EU/UK need to be added.

You are being contacted by a scammer. They want you to click on their message or email, or QR code, and take you off Etsy and have put in your bank acct.#  or CC again so that they can steal what is in it. To see if your account is suspended, just go to your account, it is not. Go to your messages, if they say they are Etsy contacting you there is a "From Etsy" in your messages any legit message from Etsy will be there if not its a scammer. They target new shops that are anxious for a sale and are new and don't know how Etsy operates. When you got that message there should have been a popup saying beware of anyone trying to take you off Etsy, as they already have your info. and don't need to verify it again. If they do want something it will be in your account on your dashboard too.

No, those are not legitimate messages. Those are scammers trying to get your bank details.  Mark them as spam.

Scammers tend to target new shops.

If you receive an actual order, you will see it in your "Orders and Shipping" section and you will receive an email from Etsy notifying you that you have a sale, and there will be a notification in your dashboard as well.
