My messages are not working correctly. I can't see anything after I click on the message, its blank. I asked the customers to send again but still not luck. And the message still shows that I haven't answered it even though I have. I asked the customers to email me directly until Etsy can fix the problem.
Check the CSV file and see if the messages are being credited as being answered. If not you might want to try to spam them if Star Seller is important to you. Sounds like you'll need to contact Etsy to get the problem solved. My only suggestion would be the usual clear cache or try a different browser.

This just happened to me (on browser)
I could only see the first sentence of the message on the preview in my message dashboard. When I clicked on the message nothing was there. I responded with a period "." and some spaces, sent the message, then the original message was there
Etsy is messing up big time with their attempts to "combat spam" . Half of all messages are going to the spam folder from legitimate customers (repeat customers over multiple orders)
