Whenever I send message to buyers or potential buyers (those who message for inquiries), this pops out
Bummer, your messages have been temporarily disabled. Please contact support to have them reactivated. Also, see the FAQ and Community Guidelines for more info about Messages.
I already sent an email a couple times and I don't receive any support or action. I already messaged via Etsy Support live chat and they either don't give me a reply or ask me to wait for an email. It's been weeks and it's affecting my shop.
I don't know how I got this when I only answer queries from buyers and potential buyers.
It's affecting my goal for star sellers
Messages are "temporarily" disabled when either a customer has complained about being spammed or when sellers have contacted potential customers via messenger without receiving initial contact from the customer first.
There is no known time limit regarding this restriction. Sellers have reported losing the ability to message from weeks to months depending on the severity.
I don't know why anyone bothers with support on Etsy. It's non-existent even when you do get through. Full of copy paste replies and no actual help at all.
@TheGiftGap Not true. I have been here for a very long time and each time I have used Support they have come through. You have to know how the system works. You reply back to the cut and paste. It is important for Etsy to cut and paste because many sellers do not avail themselves of HElp and Our house Rules which can answer most questions. Even the forums can answer many questions.
That is why you learn very quickly to sort everything out yourself.
@TatinDesigns: Not to discount the fact that your messaging may have been disabled in error, generally it is because the system has detected that your account has been sending unsolicited non-transactional messages.
There does not appear to be a published time for how long messaging is muted and based on posts in this forum it can vary.
Again based on other posts, Etsy does not seem to view support requests based on user violations as a priority.
If the Message muting is in error, one of the Etsy Admins has been able, in several cases, to restore messaging. Hopefully they will see your thread and will check into it for you.
When sending messages Etsy only allows you to talk to people who have purchased from you or asking something of you, and you have a reason to discuss something with them. If you send messages to potential buyers, or to sellers with a message that does not pertain to the order, all that Etsy considers spam and that can get your privileges revoked. Sending unsolicited messages to people who haven't purchased, is considered spam and is actually illegal in many countries, so be aware of that too.
Thanks for the reply! I don't message buyers unless they message me first. That's why I am confused about what happened. Whenever I raise this thru Etsy's live chat, they just mention that they will email me for updates
If you contacted buyers before they contacted you that is why you are muted. We are not allowed to use messages that way.
When Etsy will restore will be up to Etsy.

Thanks for the responses guys. Just to be clear, I don't message other buyers/potential buyers unless they message me first. Hopefully, my inbox gets fixed soon.
