In addition to not being able to send a message to my buyers today (which I know is being worked on currently), the "SUBJECT" box is missing. This is super important. Please tell me it's being worked on and not a new Etsy thing that was fixed-because-it-wasn't-broken?
Thanks!
I am sure that the subject box has been removed intentionally because all messages are now being lumped into a single thread and the subject no longer is visible anyway. We have just started making the first line of the message the "subject" as that will at least appear on the messages page (at least on desktop as we do not use the app or mobile for managing the business).
Ahhh---someone who sees what I've always seen, and used. I've not experienced all messages being lumped into a single thread yet, but I assume you mean all messages from one person's account? That'd be awesome. Thanks for helping me not feel crazy anymore. lol ♥
I miss the subject line box too. I always add something like "Reply/Approval/Information Needed" at the beginning of the subject when messaging from the order page. It also helped keep track of orders, especially when one customer places multiple orders.
i can only speak to desktop, but the subject has not been visible on the messages page for quite some time. The only place we have seen it lately is on the eMail copy of the Convo, and then only the original message's subject. Since all messages are being lumped together the subject line would never be seen. We have started putting the "subject" as first line of the message. That will be seen on the message page.
YES YES YES! Exactly! I've been using it forever, for exactly the same reason you do ........ until sometime late Wednesday night, when it disappeared. Looks like another thing fixed that wasn't broken. I am verklempt.
GREAT NEWS: It is back for NEW orders!
@BlackMarketChicago My subject line is still missing. I wonder if it's a test?
Subject box was always there for me until today. OP I agree. Very frustrating. And this lumping messages together is extremely annoying. They listened to all the complainers who couldn't handle multiple threads when Etsy should have left messages stand alone. Give me a break. I'm a busy shop. Yes sometimes customers send multiple messages. Put on your auto reply, or mark as spam or reply individually. It's not rocket science.
I suspect that this is a combination of lowest common denominator design and a quick and dirty way to eliminate a ton of complaints, without any thought to the consequences. This "improvement" is making our Etsy life much more miserable. We often have multiple SEPARATE AND DISTINCT message threads with a single customer and it is a pain to keep track which message a reply is to. Clearly whoever thought this was a good solution does not use the Etsy Convo system.
YES! Thank you. Ditto. E) All of the above. So frustrating and needless for them to remove the subject header box. It's hard enough getting buyers to read their messages as it is, and it's mandatory for we sellers who do custom goods and engraving, etc.
I still do not see a subject box. I use this because if customers just see an order number as the title it is disregarded. They can't remember order numbers...who does. So, I put "URGENT Personalization issue" or "Urgent Address Issue with Etsy order". Then suddenly you get a response fast verses maybe never.
On desktop (can not speak to mobile or app) the subject line has not appeared on the messages page for ages. We just put the "subject" on the first line of the message and then it shows in the message grid on the messages page.

@UniqueGiftOrnaments Yeah, I kind of figured it was a promo, but I didn't want to assume. I was curious if they would respond.
