Making a new listing from a “copy” and it’s not saving the new content

Jump to solution

Something started happening Friday, which is really hurting my shop and my ability to continually add listings when I have time.

what happening is I have a template listing that I use for most of my listings and when I go to create a new listing and I select a copy and existing listing and I pull that listing up when I go to edit the new title, and the photographs and the SKU number, the price, the description, etc. etc when I publish the new listing, the title and the description is reverting back to what it was before I edited it. In other words, it’s going back to the listing that I copied

For example, if I pull up a “Gorham Sterling nut dish” because I’m posting another “Sheffield nut dish”  I edit the title to say “Sheffield nut dish” then I go down to the other information by the time I scroll back up it has already changed back to “Gorham nut dish”

The same thing is happening with the description. Luckily, it is saving the photos, the SKU number the prices, the tags and all of the other information. But it’s continually not saving the title and the description.

and it looks like it’s saving it when you publish the listing, but when I go back and look at it later, it didn’t save the title or the listing. I’ve had listings that have been up for days that had the incorrect title and description. This is kind of scary,

has anyone had any problems like this? I’ve reached out to Etsy, but so far they haven’t been any help at all. Do they ever call you?

This makes me sad. I chose Etsy because I thought they were a better site than the others. But the issues I’ve had already are making me rethink that.

@TheEtherealMenagerie  Giving you a Bump.
Sorry, I have no idea why it's doing this (reverting back to the way the listing was before you edited the Copy). It seems like a couple other Sellers were having a similar issue yesterday. Are you using the new listing form? (instead of reverting back to the old one). Also, the other day, Etsy was down. I wonder if you're having residual problems because of it. Did you try clearing your cache, cookies? And don't use the App (it can be glitchy). Try using a mobile browser instead.

I hope some of this will be helpful, and that others will jump in.

I am using the app. And not sure what you mean by “new listing form” this all just started end of last week. I have over 300 listings I did in the last 2 months without incident. Now all of the sudden this. One listing I had to actually deactivate because it refuses to allow me to save the correct title and description. Crazy!!

I guess I could use mobile browser but that seems more complicated. It was going along sooo smoothly there for awhile.

also, how do you clean out my cache from an app? or did you mean to do that only if I was using the mobile browser.

thank you!

@TheEtherealMenagerie When I list something, the new listing form will pop up.  But at the top of it, there is a blue Tab which says, "To switch back to the old listing form, click here". I switch back every time.  The old listing form is much more efficient and streamlined.  The new one takes more clicks to perform one task. And it isn't complete. I'm not certain but maybe because you're new, you don't get the option to switch back (or perhaps it's due to the app. I've never used the app, so I don't know).

You're right, if you're using the app, I don't think you can clear out the cache (as you can with a mobile browser).  And you did 300 listings in the last 2 mths. with no problem. So I think something is definitely glitchy with Etsy.

Instead of using the app, you could try a mobile browser (or computer). Darn, I wish I could help you.

Same here, or if I restock a sold out item, it still shows "sold out".  No clue.  We had luck re-making those listing but obviously the most ideal thing is to copy or restock.

Yeah, this is not my main job so I try to make this as time efficient as possible, which is why I created the template that I copy with almost every single listing. It already has preloaded tags that apply to all of my listings and terms and conditions and stuff that I put in the description.

To have to make a listing from scratch each time would take me 100 times longer to do and wouldn’t even be worth staying on Etsy for.

I have to be able to copy a previous. I won’t be productive enough if I can’t.

I still have probably 2 to 300 more items I need to list and I’m trying to get this done before the shopping season comes for Christmas

@ExGlow YES! This is happening to me and it's so frustrating! The listing looks active in my dashboard, it's visible in my active listings, and it's showing up as a listing in my storefront, but when you click on it from my shop, it says 'sold out'.

Yeah, it seems as the problem has actually gone from bad to worse. There’s one listing I had to flat out Deactivate because it simply refuses to accept the correct title and description. So now I’m being charged for listings that won’t even let me put the right information in so now we’re at a point where they’re taking my money But not even allowing me to use the listing. And I still haven’t gotten any responses from technical support

I'm using the "old" listing format and am not having any trouble with the copy function. Are you using the newer version?

someone else mentioned this. I am so sorry I’m not really tech savvy. What does that mean? Using the old listing format? How can I get to that on the app?

I’m so not text Abby and using the app was super easy for me so now that I’m encountering problems, I don’t even know what to do.

@TheEtherealMenagerie did you try to change device? did you try to switch old listing editor mode? Maybe the old version works

I honestly don’t know how to do that. I just got an iPhone 15 and I don’t know how to revert to an older version of the Etsy Seller app. If someone can help me with this, I’d be so grateful

YES! I renewed a listing that was sold out. Before doing that, I changed one of the crate labels in the group of 10.... then renewed it. It changed ALL the previous sales of this pack to the new/renewed group of 10. I let etsy know about this, but not too sure what has been done. I needed a copy of one of the sales sold a month ago and they got that to me immediately.

I just noticed the same issue! I usually use the copy listing feature to add new items since most of my items are similar except for tags and title, and I noticed several of the ones I've added over the past few days reverted back to the old title and description. I went back and edited them again but I'm keeping an eye on them to see if they revert back again.

I think I might have lost out on sales because people couldn't find the new listings in my shop after I posted about them on socials.

Yes!! This is a huge problem and a huge concern. If we can’t be confident that the listings that we created are “staying” this sets us up for having problems with our customers. And then getting hits against our shop. I’m sure Etsy won’t bail us out even though this is ultimately their fault. This could create some messy situation for people who have worked hard to have excellent customer service, and accurate listings

this is something that they should have fixed immediately yet I have not heard anything from them other than telling me to have the latest version and power cycle my device, which are things I already did before even contacting them

I also renewed a sold out listing this morning and it reverted to changes that I made months ago. But I didn't know it at the time.

I had copied a listing months ago then made changes to the variations. The variations have been set for months but when I renewed this morning it reverted to old settings that weren't accurate.

I just lost a sale to a customer who wanted to buy 3 necklaces because they kept getting errors.

When I made the changes after I was made aware of the error I did switch to the new editor and saving with the new editor did save my changes.

I don't know if that will help anyone but try changing to the new editor and see if that works. I am on my desktop not using the app.

I’ve been having the same issues. I can’t seem to find a way to report it.

I spent almost an hour reporting another technical/backend issue via chat but was told - not in these exact words - to just live with it until they “may” fit it. (They have taken away the option to manually select categories and some categories just will not show no matter how hard you try - like men’s sweatshirts - you have to choose “hoodies” even though it is not the right category).

It’s very frustrating not being able to speak to, or at the least, report to, someone in the technical team. I have some experience with website design and application and there is almost always an option to simply report a technical issue. Why they don’t make it this easy I don’t really know. How do you report a technical issue?
