Made To Order Digital orders being marked as Complete without my knowledge or any attachments!!!

My last two orders have been marked as complete the second the order was placed without me doing any such action or having the time to complete the orders and without the necessary attachments. I have all my listings set to Made To Order digital downloads so I don't know why etsy would have this malfunction twice. Both times I attached their downloads in a message because there is no option to edit an order after it is marked completed. I sent the message to them explaining the situation and what happened and they have been happy with the outcome but I don't see why etsy has made this change to how my orders are being processed. Any insights welcome.

There have been other posts about this. If I'm remembering correctly it's a known site issue where made to order digital downloads revert to regular instant download after one sells or something like that. 

Hopefully someone who knows more specifics will chime in. I'll see if I can find one of the other threads.

Sorry, I searched for other posts but I must have not used the right terms because I found nothing. On the most recent one it had never been ordered before so I don't understand how it could have reverted after one sold when that hadn't happened? Will I be penalized for selling something with no attachment as it appears that is what I did if you don't look at the messages and see that the attachment is in there?

I wish I could offer more help or specifics about the issue but I'm mostly clueless about digital items here since I don't sell them. I just remembered seeing multiple posts about it here from digital sellers. I likely have the exact issue or why its happening wrong so hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in to help. Sorry I'm not more help.
