Listing Set to Manually Expire is renewed by Etsy

I had a listing set to Manually Renew because I wanted it to expire.  When it was time to renew it, I didn't do anything.  I let it expire on November 30, 2023.   However, the listing did not expire.  It was renewed by Etsy.  It is showing as active in my shop.   

When I go to the section where I chose the renewal, It reads "Expires on November 30, 2023".   I had to manually de-activate the listing.

Be careful with your listings.   Check them thoroughly to make sure the deactivated/expired ones are not active.  Even if you think they expired, they could still be active.

This is the message Customer Support wrote me when I contacted them:

Thank you so much. I see that your listing is currently active, so as the expiration date have passed, this confirms that they have been auto-renewed, otherwise they would be showing on the expired section. However, the new expiration date has not been updated as they are still showing the last expiration date Nov 30, 2023.

This is something that our tech team is currently working on as the expiration date is not updating.

We do appreciate your patience while they are working to fix it. I know is not ideal, and I will send a heads-up to our tech team about this situation right away.

This has been going on literally for years.  The tech team is working on nothing that will fix this problem.  No one knows what the tech team is working on but it isn't any of the technical problems on this site.  The only thing you can do is make sure the listing is on manual and deactivate it before Etsy wants to charge you for the longer time the listing is active.

I periodically go to my listings page, click at the top for All Listings, Editing Options, Manually Renew.

That's what I do, too. I like to re-evaluate an item I'm selling when I renew!

There have been ongoing issues with this for a long time. Do note that if you view the listing in edit mode, it will default it to auto renew even if you change  nothing. . If you view the listing make sure to reset it to manual renew. Some sellers have had things expire but stay live for MONTHS with no fees but then a giant "correction". If you were wanting them to be listed not such a big deal except then some had hundreds of listings update and charge listing fees and suddenly all have the same expiration date even though before they were more spread out. But people who had a lot of listings and assumed they had expired but not checked suddenly had a listing fee bill on listings they had not even wanted renewed. And what a headache for those who THOUGHT they had expired and sold them elsewhere and suddenly they sold on Etsy!.  Moral of the story is if you use manual expire, check it. And if you never want it listed accidentally again, delete it totally don't just deactivate or leave in your expireds.

It wasn't renewed by Etsy and you didn't pay anything. It just didn't expire when it should have.

I had several zombie listings (still active) like that before Christmas. When I came back from vacation and reactivated my shop again they were all fully expired (not active).

Etsy support staff don't have a clue.

I have a few of those, too. You are right, they don't have clue.

I have the same situation with hundreds of listings and they probably are intentionally left to be active when they are set to manually renew. It feels like Etsy is afraid of losing massive amount of links too sudden.  I am not sure if I am charged for autorenewal fees on them, but I will check out.
