Legit messages still being sent to spam

I wanted to give my fellow sellers a heads-up:  Our customer messages are being sent to spam by Etsy.  So be sure to check your spam folders. 

A shopper sent me a message with a question and the intent to purchase. After I responded, Etsy sent the conversations to my spam folder.  It disappeared from my inbox.  I discovered it in my spam folder with a flagged notation sharing Etsy had found the message to be spam and moved it.  Fortunately, I was able to mark it as "not spam" so I could answer my customer and place her order.   I hope sharing this helps anyone else experiencing this problem.

I think this will continue to happen because buyers who are contacting various sellers about items to be made or other around the same time, will have their messages placed in spam.

The only thing to do is watch the spam folder and answer any legit message from the spam folder.

@ArtDollsbyJD That makes sense.  There is a lot of spam and fraud happening these days.  I imagine it's difficult to manage.  Agreed, we need to continue to check our spam folders.

Thanks for the heads up.  I had a conversation thread with a potential buyer about a custom order and the messages from her just stopped.  Wish I'd thought to look in the spam folder.

@NancyQstudio  Thanks for the new post - I check occasionally, usually when I'm reminded in the Forums.  I found one from several weeks ago, exactly as you described (except no notation that Etsy moved it)!  Customer asked a question, I answered, and subsequent questions in the thread went into my Spam folder!

 

Very frustrating!  So now, if you mark it as "not spam", I supposed that counts against you for Star Seller?

@PillowDetails It is frustrating.  I do understand these things are difficult to handle. And Etsy is trying to address spam and scams which is greatly appreciated. But Etsy isn't always a seller friendly site these days which is what makes it challenging.  I almost missed this sale and the customer would have wrongly assumed I ignored them.  

On a side note:  I did find out the customer was not reaching out to other sellers.  Therefore I'm assuming this might be a programming issue or glitch.

I just checked and I have a message there from 2 days ago. This person was looking for an auction donation, so I assume the same message was sent to multiple shops.

Makes me look like a jerk for not answering.

@SmudgePlant That's a hard one.  If the person was sending mass requests out to sellers it might be considered spam. Etsy won't know if they are a legitimate business or not.  And sadly, so many of them are not.  I am sure the sender didn't think of your shop in a negative way.  If they were sending an abundance of messages out, it's more likely they only thought about those who responded.  As a past buyer from your shop, I know your customer service and products are fantastic!  So, please don't let this bother you.
