With the new rollout, I am seeing all of my items are automatically listed as "Designed by FirstCampaign" (this shows on the item listing) even though most of my items should fall under "Made by". Anyone else experiencing this? I tried to edit the new "Core details" section ("Who made this item?", etc), but still says "Designed by". Maybe just a bug in the initial rollout?
Well, I guess I'm glad I'm not alone in this?
I have a sticker and stationery shop where I design and illustrate everything but use a professional manufacturer to print my designs on stickers and stationery which they then send back to me.
95% of my listings fall under the "paper and party supplies" category which, as I've come to realize, is what is throwing me into the "sourced by" category when it should be "designed by."
I've tested this because when I change the category to "laptop decals," it correctly states "designed by." But a sticker is a sticker and should be categorized as such for reliable and accurate searchability.
Ugh. I've chatted with support but they had no answers.
@ThePerkyPencil
Urgh, sorry to hear you have this too. I designed my own washi tape, and it says 'Sourced by' which I am peeved by.
They threw several of mine into sourced by also. Makes it sound like we're reselling.
If though you use a production partner for print on demand they make that sourced by. It's only designed by if bought in bulk... figure that out. I guess because so much POD simply uses input from the customer and the seller doesn't have a design.
This is the issue I have with my calendars. If I list them in the proper category in Supplies, where Etsy stuck wall calendars, unless I choose I Made It, they get labeled as Sourced By on the product listing page which leaves me to reiterate strongly in the listing description and info that I took the photos myself, I am the photographer, that I run an indie artist/designer shop and All items in my shop originate from my own artwork.
I may double list my 3 calendar listings in Art, Wall Art category where if I choose Made by Another Company or Person (my print provider prints and ships for me, I do not make the final calendar myself) then Designed By shows as the label.
I also had an item mislabled as "Designed by" when it is "Made by". It's my bestseller and is made completely from scratch. I contacted support and they said they can't change it despite what I selected under the item details. They sent me a link to give feedback on a survey as if that will do anything to get it changed. Support said "For now, you are not able to edit the label under Item Details that are displayed to buyers on your listing. If you feel your item details should be different, please take our survey (https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7878278/Etsy-Feedback-8733265084) to leave feedback on the way your item is being represented."
They said "We use a variety of inputs to determine the various item details shown on the listing page, including information you provide around your item, as well as buyer shopping interaction with your item."
So you can't do anything about it until their developers do something to fix how the automated labeling system is working (or something).
@FreshCuttery
Oh that sounds very annoying.
I have all my items marked as "handpicked by" instead of "made by" although each and every one of them is unique and handmade by me and my husband in our own workshop and I've gone through the core details for every single item. I had a chat with Etsy support, like many others have, but the result is the same, nothing can be done about it. To be honest this feels like a total insult. Etsy just decides to pretty much describe me as a dealer of ready-made goods instead of a crafts person, and that is a very big deal to me. On the other hand, by doing so, they are providing false information to the customers that I can only try to fix by noting that the items are hand-made by us in the item description. Really makes me feel sick to my stomach.
@CutOpal
I'm sorry to hear that. I've decided I will make an infographic that lays out my process, and add it to my photos in the hope that customer scroll through them. It's the only thing we can do while we wait for Etsy to do its job and put things right.
Oh and we can fill out the survey too.
@CutOpal we are having the same issues with most of our gift sets. A few say made by but most say handpicked. It's the exact same products! Some are the same basic photograph, yet some are made and some are picked. Yes, it makes us look like resellers and liars. I'm sorry this is happening to you too
You should be able to choose more than one item under "Core Details". What if one alters a base item with components made from scratch?
Only when you choose I Made It, to start.
Support just told me no one can edit the tags at Etsy.
Oh, someone else said that... I am at my wit's end with this... I put so much time and effort into my work, and now it's being degraded by Etsy, and I have no recourse. They are literally misrepresenting my items to the public, which... isn't that illegal in Europe or places in the world that actually have advertising standards? I don't know, but... it feels like my work is being devalued in front of my eyes by the very people I pay to sell my work... what the hell is happening?
Adding my voice to the complaints. I make all my own stuff yet have been categorised as 'Designed by'. Etsy if you bother monitering this sort it out. I understand that there may be glitches but to have no way of correcting the errors is a pitiful example of rollout planning.
all my items are handmade and somewhat similar in design, but half of my listings are randomly marked designed by... and the support is not helping me to change them. They are providing false information about the items on my expense, tarnishing the shop's and my reputation, calling it "an experiment"!!! if I have been previously asked for consent to participate in this feature experiment on the listings that I have paid for then maybe... by this happened over night. I have selected the "made by me" option on every listing I have published, now my best seller is marked "designed by" which is infuriating. I hope they provide information as when they will fix these mistakes
Very frustrated. I took the survey and hope it does something. I make everything by hand in my shop. There are original pressed flower designs that I make and then have printed onto notecards. I don't think it is fair to say that is designed by me just because I outsource for printing. I'm upfront that I have a production partner and I talk about my OOAK art being printed. The handmade paper products that I make completely by hand are also labeled as designed by. I really can't edit 100+ listings every time Etsy rolls something out that doesn't work.
I abhor the new listings page and everything that goes along with it. That is the post.
I've got same issue as others. Handmade stuff shows as "Designed by". But I also made new listings and it did say "Made by" right after but a couple of days later they all say "Designed by". Why would Etsy unleash such messy AI on us?! Talking to support was useless too. They can't change anything and keep repeating I should describe my items better. My descriptions are pretty detailed, but I made sure to have words handmade in title, description and tags hoping it will trigger the Made by status. It did. But only temporarily!
I am so sorry you are experiencing this too! I pretty much got the same response from Etsy... They didn't talk about the descriptions having an impact though. The first sentence in mine says "Handmade in Santa Fe, New Mexico..." What else can we do? I had a the same thing happen with a new item. It showed correctly as "Handmade by" at first and then reverted to "Designed by" the next day. Ughhhh!!!
It's all too much.... Handmade by, designed by, sourced by, handpicked by; but yet Etsy ads say crafted by, shaped by and (forgot the other ones)
I am one click away for this listing and cannot add anymore. Will not let me choose Finished product or Tool or supply. If I cannot add listings, no renewals.
