I have received a message saying someone has bought my product but I need to verify payment method. The link leads me to a failed website. Can I assume this is a scam?
Yeah, that's a scam
@OrganizeByJade Yes, that is a scam. If you supplied any bank or credit card details then please contact your bank/credit card provider asap to notify them as your financial information could be compromised.
This help center page explains how to check the shop manager for real orders: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015710308-What-to-Do-After-You-Sell-an-Item?segment=selli...
It has other useful links about how you get paid, etc.
My sister on another Etsy shop, was in a hurry and gave all the card details.
The card was good and she has small ammounts of money on it so she didnt bother to announce the bank.
Then, after a month, the bank suddenly closed her card.
They said somebody from a distant country was trying to take out large sums of money.
The bank made her another card.
These scammers are dangerous as they can trick even experienced sellers.
I dont even want to think what they could do to the old and vulnerable people.
scam. hopefully you did not provide any banking information. but if you did, contact your bank immediately
Of course it's a scam! If or when etsy ever needs you to "verify" anything having to do with ID or finances, there will be a message ON YOUR DASHBOARD. They do not communicate via messages or email.
And, real messages from etsy will be in the "from etsy" section of your inbox. You have to check on a computer or through a browser, not the app.
@OrganizeByJade Yes it is. Have you read the Etsy "Announcement" section in the Forums?
Yes, definitely a scam. Unfortunately, your shop is an easy target for scammers. To protect yourself, you should finish your shop to give it, at least, a legitimate appearance. Upload a banner appropriate to your product, declare your location, create an About section to share the inspiration behind your product, and set up your policies. Finally, you'll definitely need far more than one listing in order to be found during Google searches.

If you receive an actual order, you will see it in your "Orders and Shipping" section and you will receive an email from Etsy notifying you that you have a sale, and there will be a notification in your dashboard as well.
