Hi Everyone!
I have a question I hope that someone can help me out with. I have been selling digital products on etsy forever. I used to email out orders, then had a program that would automatically send files from my main site server (which is currently down right now) - and then Etsy started allowing instant download.
I get hundreds of messages from customers that had their computer crash - and need files from orders they placed 13 years ago. I used to recreate the order on my main site and have them download the items there - or email the files to them directly. this is such a pain in the neck, and SOOO time-consuming.
I didn't create new listings when I started adding files to instnat download - the listings are the same. However, my customers don't have access to the download link. on etsy. I feel like this is something that Etsy can and should resolve.
Is there something that I am missing?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jacki
Wow. I would not want to be responsible for replacing files due to buyer's computer crashes.
I think people need to be responsible for the information on their computers by having back-ups, etc.
But I am a nice person and if a regular customer asked me to replace a file due to a crash I might do it. But wow, replacing files for all any of my customers over time ... I wouldn't want to go there nor set a precedent for going there. It would have to be a high value customer to twist my arm (and even then, I have misgivings about replacing things in perpetuity). I might offer a discount coupon so they could repurchase at a discount.
So - you are talking about digital files before the instant download option was introduced on Etsy? Sorry - out of luck. The Buyer is responsible for backing up stuff in case of a crash.
Tell them to get it from their backup drive or cloud.
13 years?? no. I'd be embarrassed to ask a Seller to replace a file from that long ago. It's like buying a book 13 years ago and asking the bookstore to give you another copy because you lost it during a move
I recently emailed a pattern to a buyer who originally purchased in 2014. It took about a minute, and made a very happy customer. It was kind of fun to see who purchased so long ago.
I might be less happy about hundreds of requests!
I would create a polite message to use as a response and save it so you don't have to spend so much time.
