I updated a listing today including the video and I know the video was correct and not a vulgar one. When I recently clicked on the item and video it showed a completely different video that was inappropriate for my shop items. No, I do not have the inappropriate video on my phone. It's not my video. Has anyone else had this happen? I don't know if it's a hack on my iphone or a hack on Etsy. I upload the videos from my phone to my listings. I am not tech savvy so have no idea what happened. I tried to go through all the listings I worked on today to make sure the videos are correct. They seem okay but if anyone sees one out of character please let me know. The item that was affected was this one https://babyjewlz.etsy.com/listing/1398753392 . Guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
@SnappyBaby Thank you!
Here's hoping they get it sorted.
If it was happening when copying a listing I would not copy a listing! (not that it should be happening) and go back and redo that listing from a fresh listing. NO EXCUSE for a porn video showing up! How bizarre.
Because it wasn't just another random Etsy listing video, but was a semi xrated sounding video, however it got in, sounds like a deliberate act. I'd definitely check all your videos and change your password, maybe even put 2 step login authentication on.
FWIW I stopped even thinking about videos as soon as there were glitches. This is Etsy.
Because, honestly, as a buyer, I do not really understand the need to see a piece of jewelry waved around in someone's hand.
I understand and appreciate videos of something that actually moves or has moving interacting parts, but most videos show nothing that stills would not take care of just as well.
@OneEyeCatStudio, etal. I have never put a video on a listing. Never! And I seem to do just fine.
If you do not have antivirus on your phone, I suggest to go to your app store & get one. Phones are just tiny computers.
That is strange.
When you take a screenshot of the video and then do a search with Google lens you can find the seller of the bowl of crystals. They are in a different country from the OP. I wonder if they have noticed anything strange on their listing videos too
@ElvenstarDesign please let the OP know what seller it is, so the OP can contact them.
@cindylouwho2 of course, I see the OP has removed it now but I still have the store in the Netherlands name with the same video.
I will send you the name of the etsy store through DM so you can contact them. (Incase I am not allowed here)
Interestingly the file name of the crystals is
File_ jfgbra
Could that also explain the first inappropriate video that was there too?
Sound like an etsy issue
Someone upthread mentioned videos are named differently to photos (which Etsy renames when you upload them). I checked my videos and they keep the filename you gave them (or that they were given by default by your system). Then 6 characters are added to the end of the filename to make them unique. I imagine what may have happened in your case is your video filename was the same generic one as someone else's video and for some reason the bit added to the end to make it unique didn't work properly (wasn't added, or duplicated another one).
I shall certainly be changing the filenames of any videos before uploading in the future. I do that already for the photos (for my own purpose as they get changed by Etsy anyway), but trying videos out is a new thing for me and I have a different process for them and didn't realise Etsy doesn't change the filename.
The good news is, anyone wanting to check their videos should be able to cursor over their thumbnails in their shops to see if their are any wrong videos. Or is that a test? Because I am seeing that now, in any listing that has a video.
And by the way @cindylouwho2 - have you seen this??
@PillowDetails I only see the videos come up when I cursor over the featured items in a shop. The video (if present) does show up for each item in Etsy search though.
It might be helpful to use a fairly generic search, then filtering down to the exact shop location.
@PillowDetails Thanks! I saw this yesterday, but that was before anyone else confirmed the issue. I thought it was about caching on the viewer end, but this definitely seems to be Etsy's problem.
I had a random video belonging to someone else on my listing. Not your fault.
Happened to me, too. Twice. Not an inappropriate video, but definitely another seller's video for a completely different item. I uploaded my video again and all is well. Notified Etsy. Problem on their end.
This is an old thread. Things like that happen when two videos in the system have the same name.
This also happened to me today.Have you received any info from Etsy?
