How can I avoid duplicate Etsy fees when I have to edit and re-publish an item from Printful?

Jump to solution

Hi All,

I am building my new shop and using Printful. Occasionally, I will need to make an edit on a listing and sometimes I can do that through Etsy but sometimes it is something that I have to edit on Printful's end. When that happens and then I republish even if it's just a few minutes later, I end up incurring another 20-cent fee. This isn't very much obviously but it can start to add up if I have to make multiple edits. For example, for some items, I have been charged the 20-cent fee three times this month.

Ok yes, that has to be done on Printful but shouldn't be relisting anything on etsy. You can edit the printfile on any of your listings on printful and they will update when your shop syncs.

To update a printfile on Printful you go to Printful > stores. Find the listing you want to update in your store and click the edit button on that listing. Then you select  the variants (just one or a few or all) and you should see a button that says 'change printfile'. Click it and make your changes. Depending on how you have things set up you may need to do that for each individual variation on that item. It will make the changes over on etsy automatically once things sync. It may take a bit to complete the sync and you may need to do some minor updating on the listing over on etsy example-photos sometimes don't change if all your photo slots are full.

You shouldn't be charged a relisting fee on etsy to do any of the above.

What kind of edits are you making and why can't they be done on Etsy? I use printful for some items and have always made my edits to Etsy listings on Etsy. I have never been charged additional listing fees.

If you are fixing it on Printify, you shouldn't have to republish on Etsy at all. Just refresh the page a few times. They are supposed to be synced so a change on either end fixes it on the other end.

Edits shouldn't be charged a fee, anyway, unless the product is already expired. If you are getting charged multiplle times, contact Etsy directly.

If you are making one listing for say canvas prints, then another on Printify for paper art prints of the same image, you will be charged once for each lisiting unless you have combined them into one listing, and left the others as drafts.

If you have properly synced your Etsy store with Printify, you need to republish on Printify, but not on Etsy.  It may take a bit longer to see the changes until the Etsy cached page expires in a few minutes, but then the change should be there. That is what "sync" means.

Similarly, when you make changes on Etsy, you should automatically see them on Printify, once the Printify cached page renews.

The only time you need to republish on Etsy is if you previously set up a listing for a design on say canvas prints, then you create a new listing for that design on paper art prints on Printify. Then you will need to go to the new Draft on Etsy and copy the additional SKU numbers over to the canvas prints listing to combine them all in one listing. Then you will have to Republish, but there shouldn't be any listing fee for this, as long as you left the art prints as drafts.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but…

I realize republishing on Printify updates Etsy, but I didn’t realize it worked in the other direction, too.

So, thanks for that!

OTOH, as @WitticismsRus pointed out, the OP is using Printful, not Printify.

I believe that you do need to “push” the Printify edits to Etsy, through publishing on Printify, but if it’s an existing product that already syncs, then you should not get a listing charge from Etsy.

Are you sure you’re not creating a new listing?

fyi: other than variations, design, and price, I make all my edits on Etsy, including title, images, and descriptions.

OP said they are using Printful not Printify. Printful doesn't have a 'push' option.
