I have a listing McCalls 6972 that I listed yesterday, I can see it in my shop but it does not come up in search. I have checked the listing and am a loss as to why it doesn't show up..Never had this happen before. If someone could search for it and tell me what you see, I would surely appreciate it. Am I missing something?
I did a search just for 6972, for McCalls 6972.
McCalls classic
I got ZERO results for those.
I tried Lingerie, got 3 results but not for the 6972.
I also tried searching for misses size 14 and that item never showed up but I got 149 results for other items.
I finally found it by looking at the section for vintage clothing patterns. Top row.
I'd bet Etsy is shadow banning / hiding that item for some reason because it's lingerie, maybe Etsy thinks the photo is too mature (it's not), maybe it's lingerie.
BINGO It's because you have PANTIES in the title.
I added panties to ALL the search terms I used with zero results and got results including the 6972 pattern.
A friend sells female dog panties and this happened to her items. If the title/tags had "panties" her items were hidden.
That 6972 isn't the only pattern not showing up in your shop.
The baby doll wardrobe isn't showing up for McCalls 3430, baby doll wardrobe.
I can ADD panties to both searches and it shows up.
There're others that are being shadowbanned/hidden.
Do a search in your shop for panties and you'll see 23 other items (24 items in all).
Try doing a search for any of the pattern #'s on those 24 items or a word in the title and you'll get ZERO results.
Add panties to the pattern # or other words and those items show up.
This is STUPID. How can someone find a pattern for panties or patterns that have panties along with other clothing items without using the word panties?????????
You can't even search for the pattern #.
Maybe it's taking more time these days for listings to actually show up in search? Possibly a typo when you did the search?
Double check the number. It does not come up in your shop when I enter the number
I found the listing in your shop but does not come up when I search by the number. Suggest you put the number closer to the beginning of the title.
It doesn't matter where the pattern # is in the title, at the first, middle or end. Search should show it.
It's not showing because the OP used "panties" in her title and Etsy is hiding that listing along with 23 others in her shop.
If you search for 6972 panties in her shop, then that pattern will show up.
Is it this one... McCalls 6927, 3 Hour Unlined Jacket with Long or Short Sleeves and Vest Plus Scarf?
Not 6972!
There is a McCall's 6972 tho (classic lingerie). It doesn't show up in a shop search.
@OnceUponAnHeirloom The listing you posted today also doesn't show up - McCalls 7053 Animal Hang ups.
If I just put McCalls 6972 it did not show up on the first three pages. I suspect it is a price thing, yours seems to be the most expensive of what came up? Aside from that, I don't really see a difference except for the word "Classic" in your title. It is searchable with the exact title and comes up first on page 1.
Thank you all..I will check it out.

Excellent sleuthing, @vintageNCtreasures !
I didn't get any results when I did a search within your shop for 'McCalls 6972'.
But ... I did find a pattern I liked ... so I bought it : -)
thank you so very much, glad you like it, I would love to see it sewn, I loved that pattern too.
Thank you so much..lol
Thank you so much I really appreciate your help @vintageNCtreasures , I did not know this , off to change some listings.
You're welcome. I wouldn't have known that if not for my friend having the same problem a while back.
You probably need to check your tags also and remove panties from all 24 of those listings.
The only way a shopper would find them if they included panties in their search terms.
ETA: WTH are you supposed to call panties if you can't use panties to describe a pattern? undies, underwear? under garments
I'd probably never use either.
I am the friend that @vintageNCtreasures is taking about and yes, this is true. What is really odd is my best selling item still has "panties" in the title and is still getting found--a lot! I am afraid to remove it as I don't want to change anything. but I can attest that everything else is correct. Use "panties" and you get shadowbanned.
And BTW---I have found you can use "pants" or "panty" and the listing seems to get found OK. For now I have left the word panty but just to be safe I may go remove that word also.
bloomers
@vintageNCtreasures good sleuthing! I was convinced I had the answer.
In the UK we call ladies bottom underwear pants or knickers. Those loose ones are called cami knickers or French knickers.
Just a thought, if you have a best seller that has the word panty in it, why not duplicate / create the exact listing minus the word in question and see which one gets more visibility? If I had an item that was a multiple and I could sell it over and over, I would test the search rank in this way!
