Has anybody just had a dodgy message regarding verification.

Before I realised it wasn't Etsy I sent my email address. Now I'm really worried. I've now marked it as spam.

Glad you realised, these scams have been plaguing Etsy for over 12 months now, you may get more now they found you. Asking you to scan QR codes, telling you your shop is suspended etc.. Etsy will never ask you for this information via messenger or ask you click on links or QR codes. Just keep sending them to spam.

Also as you did give them your email, be aware of fake Etsy emails.

Re: Has anybody just had a dodgy message regarding verification.

they can't do anything with just an e-mail address, you legally have to have it showing, along with your actual address, in sellers details.

main shop page (not dashboard)

top left - edit

scroll down to the bottom to sellers details, add your address and e-mail address, and above that, tick the personal to "trader" and save.

Actually they can do a lot with just an email address when scammers have them.  Yes the email address has to be posted for the EU/UK and any seller that sells to but there has to be caution when an email is given to a scammer.   They can hack into social media, send phishing emails, impersonate.

This is why passwords need to be frequently changed. Anti-virus that protects email used.  And all email monitored for unusual activity.

I would never have a business e-mail address the same as any social media,

as above, it's best to have a separate business e-mail address

I rarely do social media, I may go into facebook one a month, or every other month, but I have a different e-mail just for that

I‘ve been getting them for weeks now. Just today they wanted me to fill out my Bank stuff (forgot the Name).

Also I can’t find a Report Button

@SweetpeaHandgemachte  If you are on the mobile Seller app, (blue icon) there is no spam option, but there is if you have the Buyer app with the orange icon.

Use a desktop, or the desktop mobile site.  Marking is spam is all we can do for now.

Only real legitimate messages from Etsy will appear in the "From Etsy" section of your Etsy messages - also not on the blue Seller app, for now.

ETSY already has your email!

@SweetpeaHandgemachte  No need to report the scam.  Etsy is quickly removing them as they make their way around the site.  The messages are not from the same people.  Lot of scammers out there.

Re: Has anybody just had a dodgy message regarding verification.

Valuable information in another Etsy thread for all sellers to read and be aware of to protect themselves from scam:

https://community.etsy.com/t5/Managing-Your-Shop/Information-we-can-give-out-to-sellers-asking-about...

Yes, it will take some time to read, but it could save you quite a bit of money and heartache.

@WreathsbyDanni   Since you sent your email address, be sure to monitor your email for some time.  With that scammers can do many things.  You may want to consider getting a new email address.  If you do, do not close out the old one until you receive the verifcation code for the new one.  It appears in the old email.

Re: Has anybody just had a dodgy message regarding verification.

Hi, I'm new here and I received multiple messages asking me to click on links that started with "verification-offer.com".

Since I'm new to Etsy, initially I thought it was authentic, but after reading more information I've realised it is a scam. I've clicked on the links on my phone, now I'll need to run a bug/fishing antivirus, or something.

Hopefully we all sellers stay free of scam.

Xx
