Handmade showing as DESIGNED BY but should be MADE BY

I've spoken with customer service in chat a few times but they have been unable to help me in any way, or to give me any insights at all into rectifying this - my 100% handmade by me malas are showing as Designed By and try as I may, I've been unable to fix this. I recreated a few listings from scratch and they show as Made By for a day or two and then are switched to Designed By. When this becomes a filter, I fear my shop will disappear from search. Can anyone help, please?

I'm on a PC.  I don't have the app (and never will) and when I had an iPad things were sketchy...lol

@Malaology   A couple of my listings were like that for charm packs.  It said "sourced by".  Well, no.  I don't buy those - I cut them myself!  I went into edit, and made a couple of changes, and then they came up correctly.

I have the same fear. Some of my listings changed from Made by to Designed by after I added a personalization box for a third variation. There is a survey you can fill out to voice your concerns. Chat help sent the link to me but I didn't think to save it. Hopefully if enough people complain they will do something about it.

Yep, same here.  I also use the personalization box as the third variation.  And it always says designed by when I use the personalization box, but made by when I don't use the personalization box.

Obviously we don't know the exact process of how the system decides on 'made by', designed by', etc but the category it is in seems to be a factor (perhaps the first factor) in making the decision. Based on how Etsy handles some other category influenced choices, it is very possible that some categories automatically default to a value and the other questions in core details are not even considered.

I have the same issue with my handmade glass pendants. They show as designed by and not handmade. I did the same thing as you. I copied some listing that had no visits and they showed up as handmade by. I haven't checked on them again I don't think there is any help available as of now, maybe sometime in the future.

The chat group are a great group of folks.  But they don't have any authority or permission to assist with these specific issues.  All of my hand painted paintings show up as Designed by.  I haven't used a reference for these paintings and they are made with a paintbrush on canvas. They are also shipped directly from me.  Yet, on Etsy these paintings are documented in the same category as the reproduction prints. This breaks Etsy's own policies.  I did redo all of these listings and they registered as handmade for a week. After this time Etsy placed them in their incorrect category again. I have verified all information is correct.  

Etsy's program doesn't work as it should.  I now have no hope that selling original artwork will be beneficial on Etsy.  On a good note, Etsy is still a good site for reproductions.  I'm slowly moving all of my original paintings off of Etsy and marketing them elsewhere.  I have found this has been the most beneficial action.  Sadly this means Etsy can no longer be as profitable so investing must be minimal.

I had this same problem.

Natural cosmetics I handmade myself have been marked as 'designed by' instead of 'made by', I even have a multi listing of my deodorants marked as 'designed by' and all the individual listings as 'made by'.

I have a gift box of my products that says 'picked by' when again they are all my handmade products..

I too went on chat to complain and see if they could be changed, I showed the listings evidencing the exact same products had been classed in two different ways, they told me there was nothing they could do about it and there were no plans for this to change..

I then made a post about this in the forum last week, I woke up the next day to find it deleted!

It's extremely scary to think we have soulless bots waving the axe over are head and there is no human we can get help to, we are guilty without the chance of proving innocence.. It's really disappointing but not at all surprising, this is just Etsy now.

Same here.  I even created new listings for the ones that were labeled "designed by".  They showed "made by" for more than a week and then switched to "designed by".

This has been my experience too.  Etsy breaks their own policies in this area.  I was very excited about this program as I assumed it would help handmade products.  I've found the opposite has happened.

I have no idea how Etsy's bots see things but, if pictures are being considered, yours are similar to supply shops who sell strands of beads, so they may be mis-reading your pictures.

Another misinterpretation may come from the beginning of your titles, for example:

Selenite & Sandalwood Mala Beads with Tassel ...

You're doing everything right, but the bots are pretty narrow-sighted. Could you mix things up a bit and see what happens?
