Hand Delivering

Jump to solution

I occasionally have a friend or relative order something from my shop and when they do I am always able to hand deliver their purchase to them.  However, when I do that, even after I get around the tracking number issue and mark the order as complete, the buyer still cannot leave a review because the item has not been delivered as far as Esty knows.  Does anyone know how I can make it so those purchases can be reviewed?

I don't think Etsy allows for a review unless tracking shows delivery date. Did you snail mail a receipt with an Etsy stamp label to your buyer? That counts as tracking and also for Star Seller.

I have hand delivered items and they are able to leave a review after some time has passed. It just takes a little longer for the review period to open up.

Did you have any kind of tracking? (like from a snail mail receipt) I just sold two paintings to a friend a couple hours away and it could take some time to before I can drop off the paintings as he is still renovating his home. I just want to make sure I  do get a chance to have a review since especially since 'm a new seller.

I am a new seller and hand delivered my first order.  I am not able to show the order as complete because it wasn't shipped.  Can you please tell me how to mark it as complete?

@PandemicArtLori

There are 2 ways to do this:

1. The Etsy provided way (but this will negatively affect your star seller status which some don't care about). Go to your Shop Manager>Orders and Shipping. Click the circle icon to the right of the order (Update Progress). Then click Complete Order in the drop down. When the page slides out, below the tracking number field is a line that says "This order doesn't have tracking". Click that and then you can select Local Pickup or Delivery.

2. The following way will positively affect Star Seller as long as you do it by your ship-by date:

Send a receipt/confirmation of pickup/thank you card to the customer and use Etsy Letter mail to send it. It costs about the same as a letter. It won't give you real tracking, but Etsy accepts this as tracked mail.

@PandemicArtLori: Don't know if it is the "right" way, but we just select other for the carrier.

Re: Hand Delivering

Hi All, I am going through this right now. I hand delivered my first sale as the buyer was literally right a couple of towns over. Messaged them over Etsy and they said sure no problem. Wanted to save myself the shipping as I am in that area all the time. Also, it looks good to a buyer when they get something they ordered the next day.

Now (today 4 days later) Etsy has put a payment reserve on my account holding a portion of the $ for 45 days. I reached out to Etsy support, and they said it was because they could not verify the tracking number. Yeah, it was hand delivered so there is no tracking number.

So, after going back and forth with support i asked them to send me the policy/terms for the seller that states a seller cannot hand deliver items.  They could not provide me with any documentation. I don't know how legal this is. Etsy is forcing people to spend money for shipping when they don't have to. Oh yeah and here is the kicker. I offer free shipping on all of my items. So, when i can save the shipping i would like to hand deliver.

I even marked the item complete on my order page. Can the buyer mark it received on their page? That way Etsy would know that they received it and take the reserve off of the account?  Seems pretty simple to me.

And like above says the buyer cannot leave a review. I hope they can soon. Will they be able to?

@CabinFeverLaserworx1: Can completely understand your frustration but for Star Seller Etsy requires tracking via a supported shipper for virtually all physical orders. If you have not yet done so, you might want to read https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338067-How-to-Offer-Local-Pickup-or-Delivery?segment=s...

@BagmakerSupply Thank you for your comment. The link you sent me was more informative than what Etsy support sent me.

I wished they would have a Local Pickup option.

@ItWorks4Me   Probably never.  Etsy has never liked local pickup.  They rely on tracking as proof the seller did ship the item.  Without that a seller has no protection if a buyer says not received.

And it does reduce profit for the seller if you are spending your own gas and time.
