I received a complaint from a customer saying that she couldn’t include a gift message at checkout. Has anyone else dealt with this issue recently?
If you don't have gift message enabled then they can't leave one.
To enable Gift Message go to Shop Manager - Settings - Options - Offer Gift Note - scroll to bottom of page - SAVE.

If you have gift message enabled, I believe that appears on the next phase of the order after they purchase. I think they have to click on an ellipse or maybe plus sign to open up the ability to leave a message. I don't have it enabled so I am going by what others have mentioned.
I haven't dealt with it for a customer but I just ordered a gift and had to look all over for the place to click to leave a message, I seem to think it was three dots, not easily seen.
